Per Jason LaConforna Hawks are preparing to cut Antoine Winfield citing our deep secondary.
Hes listed on the the NFL.com notable cuts page

I think Thurmmond can do the job but he has yet to prove he can stay healthy. Im not shocked but I was excited to see what Winfield could bring so Im disappointed.

The article also mentions that he'll be offered as trade bait first. I would hope that the Seahawks could swing a trade, otherwise I'd rather see him on the team. Thurmond has the talent, but hate to have to count on him saying healthy.

Ugh, I am also hearing the Niners are a likely destination for him. This is exactly what I was afraid of. Hope we can work out a trade but its hard when teams know you will just cut him

Do not rule out a visit to NE. BB loves his vet players this time a year. Reminds me on when NE brought in Otis Smith. Just about the same age too.

That was already reported by SeattleCoug.

Yes it's hard, but if more then one team really wants him, then perhaps a good trade can be worked out.

What did you guys think of Winfield preseason performance? To me he just seemed kind of invisible. Did the Hawks give him much playing time this preseason?

So harold, if the Hawks dont make the super bowl this year, you're not going to wonder what would've happened if we didnt sign Rice and didnt trade our 1st for Harvin and grossly overpay?

You wont wonder how good we would've been with our 1st rounder + $15m or more in cap space this year?

I am EXTREMELY excited to watch the Hawks this year and I think that even with some of Pete's/John's horrible moves we are a legit Superb Owl contender.

But there is just no way that I wont look back at these moves and wonder "what if", except of course a Super Bowl victory for the Hawks, in that case all is forgiven.

And there's the rub. Superbowl win, you get to be happy because you're such a big fan. Anything less, you get to shout about being "right" because had they done what you wanted they would have won it for sure!

You're wrapping yourself in a BS security blanket and that's why no one takes you seriously.

Five years from now if Russell Wilson happens to suffer a season ending injury you'll probably chime in:
"See?! I was right about him! We never should have started him!"

Utter nonsense.

Some interesting cuts among other teams. Pats cut Tebow and the Packers cut VY. Kind of surprised at GB letting him go, the only other QB they have is a practice squad guy.

I can't believe they cut Jermaine Kearse. I hope that the 49ers don't pick him up!!!

Getting ready to do some yard work and listening to the John Clayton show, a caller asked what our the chances that the Seahawks trade Thurman and keep Winfield. Clayton didn't think that would happen, but I found that to be a interesting idea. Any thoughts on that idea?

Did anyone see Winfield play this pre-season? I thought he would have been an ideal nickel or dime corner, who could really boost the run defense. What gives? Are we on the hook for the money we payed to sign him? I realize the younger corners have stepped up, but I just thought it would be nice to have him on the roster. I thought it would have been a really nice situation when we signed him. Are you guys afraid the Niners make a run for him?

I thought I'd merge this thread with the cut thread. Anyone object to that?

I'm really not happy with the cuts so far, actually quite frustrated.

I think that cutting Michael Robinson was a huge mistake.

Not only is he one of the better fullbacks in the NFL but he has also been a key contributor on special teams, and as demonstrated by TheRealRob report and his past nominations as a captain, he had a large leadership role in the Seahawks locker room.

Antoine Winfield I'm also not happy about. Like the cut of Michael Robinson, I think the Seahawks are ignoring the value that Winfield provides in exchange for putting a younger player out on the field. I like the fact that the Seahawks put a high value on young players but I feel like they are letting their value of playing younger guys (Walter Thurmond) blind the fact that Antoine Winfield is still one of the better nickel CBs in the NFL despite his age.

Walter Thurmond has looked outstanding in his time out on the field both in the preseason and last season when he started against the Cardinals, but his injury concerns are extensive and I still don't think he provides the short-term value that Winfield does.

I have a lot of respect for the Seahawks management, their willingness to take risks and the moves they have made so far but that does not change the fact that I think these moves hurt the team in the short-run, and the value that it provides in the long run is not equal to the damage it does this year.

I'm with you on the cuts. They have been brutal, simply brutal.

Link please?

I can't seem to find anything that indicates Jermaine Kearse has been cut.

I have a huge aversion to Twitter but even resorted to checking his page and his latest tweet was college football related less than an hour ago, nothing indicating he has been cut.

I liked his raw ability coming out of UW and he has made a lot of improvements since his college days and if his performance in the preseason does not warrant a roster spot I'm not sure what does.

cut Jermaine Kearse

I apologize. I read a "Yard Barker (Fox News) site again after my post and noticed a Sept. 1, 2012 posting date. It read like the current players:gaah: who might be gone. Fox News........always information that one can trust.

Not just brutal, I just feel they have the wrong intentions behind them.

I just have to hope there is more than we know about the Winfield cut, like with the cuts of Kellen Winslow last year and T.J. Houshmandzadeh in Pete's first season here.
