Here comes the first wave.

The Seahawks also announced the release of wide receiver Perez Ashford, linebacker Kyle Knox, tight end Jameson Konz, tight end Andrei Lintz, tight end/long-snapper Kyle Nelson, defensive tackle Martin Parker and linebacker Craig Wilkins.

The club also terminated the contract of wide receiver Brett Swain.

The Seahawks now have 81 players on their roster.

Jesse Williams has also been moved to the IR over his knee condition. Too bad, I was hoping he could contribute this year, but looks like he's done for 2013.

6 more will be cut by tomorrow.

I knew he was going on the IR due to the knee, but didn't realize that meant for the season. Are you sure about that? The DL sure is taking a beating this off season.

Each team is allowed to designate ONE player for IR that is eligible to come back later in the season, I believe game 6 (similar to the PUP rule) so it is POSSIBLE that they could make him that one player, but teams are more likely to use that designation on a veteran whose quality of play is already known.

Most likely he is just the vanilla version of IR and that automatically ends his season.

As an example, if Clemons hurt himself during training camp instead of the playoffs we would DEFINITELY designate him as our one IR who can return later. Because he was already hurt before camp he is eligible for PUP and that is where he will end up if they dont think he will be game-ready in September.

PUP puts you out 6 weeks though right? It sounds as though Clemons is a lot closer than 2 months from playing. Fingers crossed though!

I believe this is the IR where he is out for the season. It appears his knees are in bad shape and probably needs a program of treatments and rehab to get them NFL playable. This maybe why he kept staying to upright in practice. They simply didn't have the strength to allow him to get low and bang.

This was an advertised risk when we drafted him. He's got the body and talent to have been a round 2-3 guy, but went to 5th because of the knee concerns.

We'll just have to wait till 2014 to see if he can get his knees serviceable. If not, he was still a 5th and won't be some massive blow. We got a pretty thick roster.

Will Blackmon's contract has been terminated. I like the move, only because I didn't think he'd make the roster and letting him go this early makes it possible for him to catch on with someone else.

Today:

Seahawks released WR Donavon Kemp and CB Will Blackmon. That brought number down to 79.

Then came the medicals.

Harvin, Scruggs, and Simon to the reserve/PUP and Toomer to the reserve/NFI (non-football injury).

That means they can start practicing between Oct 15 - Nov 19, and must become active 21 days from first practice.

Clemmons has not been put on this list yet which means the Seahawks are confident he'll be back before week 6, but he could still end up PUP'd in coming week.

That got us down to 75 today.

The painful one is Blackmon. Reports are Seahawks tried to trade, but couldn't get right deal, so released. Multiple teams reported to already be interested including Giants and Eagles.
Just goes to show what depth we have at the CB spot.

Chances of trading him were slim to none. Not because he isnt a quality player but everyone in the league knew we were going to release him so they could just wait. The depth and numbers just werent there. I just hope he doesnt end up in San Fran.

Blackmon has signed with, go figure, Gus Bradley and the Jacksonville Jaguars. Good for him.

Wow this one is a big one right out of the gate:

FB Michael Robinson has been released. Guy was a pro-bowler for us in 2011. Such a dependable blocker as well. RW lost some protection today. This one stings.

NOOOO. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? Robinson is one of the top rated fullbacks in the league. I assume this MUST be cap control and that Seattle is impressed with someone else. Either way WOW.

Robinson started off as a very "HUH?" FB, but man he developed into an elite blocker. I am shocked by this move.

Chris Harper just tweeted "God is good!!!" as well.

It's possible he's made the team or PS, but no confirmation.

Is this official? All I can say is Wow. I made a bold prediction on ESPN that Ware would unset Robinson, but he hasn't. So is Coleman the starter?:omg:

It's official. NFL.com has this cut posted.

You know I had my suspicions going into preseason, but really didn't see where anyone showed enough to make it happen during camp or preseason games. I guess JS and PC did.

I guess there is a chance Seahawks can resign him to a non guarantee contract if he's not pick up by a another team, not really liking the chances of that happening.
