Updated for the first round of options.

Broadway and Gearin are two interesting stories still to play out. Neither have options left, yet both are highly regarded by the org. I am hearing more and more talk of Gearin somehow getting a spot on the opening 25 to avoid losing him. Maybe Cain starts on the DL with Heston starting as the 5.

Gearin is going on the DL with TJ surgery. Out 15-18 months.

It sounds to me like they'll slow play Cain and start the season with Heston as the #5. I don't think they'll DL Horse though...likely only misses one start

Where did you hear this? I cont find any mention of it.

Could you be mistaking him for Gardeck?

Yeah it was Gardeck. Gearrin is actually pitching right now.

Interestingly, we have 2 young players who could really fill in for 2 veterans at a fraction of the cost. Gearrin is pretty much a Romo clone, and Williamson is looking great so far. It's against the Giants way, but in a fantasy/video game world, it would be a logical move to move on from Romo and Pagan in favor of Mac and Cory. Easier to deal with Williamson, but Gearrin is a threat to lose.

I'm pretty sure they want Mac to play every day, as they see him as the LF of the future. JPark seems better able to PH and fill in, so Mac is almost certain to be ticketed for Sacto. Glad he's making it hard on the PTB though.

BTW, that home run he hit Sunday was one of the most impressive ABs I've ever seen in 20+ years of attending ST. He got a cutter inside with fuzz on the corner and CRUSHED it to right center. This was no ST "working on my pitches" throw, it was a legit dart and he rocketed it to oppo taco land. This kid can HIT.

Definitely, and what I'm saying is that Pagan should be moved to clear the way for Mac ABs full-time at the major league level. But it's against what the organization usually does so it probably won't happen.

I brought this possibility up a couple days ago. But trades at this time of year almost never happen. I would think the Giants would be happy to take a net loss on a Pagan trade, though. His roster spot is worth more than he is at this point.

We are all excited about Mac and his potential. But let's remember this is ST, and early ST at that. History is full of guys who rip it up in ST and fizzle after that.

Plus, moving Pagan would probably require us to eat like 90% of his salary. He hit well after he returned from injury last year.

Mac will get his chance. But it will be more of Pagan losing his job than Mac winning it.

Well, what type of market would there be for Oxy, and what message does that send to the clubhouse when you ship off a purportedly healthy vet? Unless you're thinking of just getting rid of him, then you eat $10MM and that seems foolish.

I don't know about that. If healthy (a big if, admittedly), he's been a solid contributor.
