Devils advocate…

His WHIP is 1.5 in AAA and he walks over 5 per 9. Also, as you mentioned, he has not looked good recently.

since June 25…

19 G, 16.2 IP, 7.02 ERA, 2+ WHIP, 20 K (good!), 13 BB.

His good season numbers are primarily based on a hot start. He has been pretty much hot garbage for approx 2 months now.
Yeah, his numbers have looked good recently but his season still looks better, even with the poor recent streak, than about 90% of any other pitcher with Sacramento.

David Villar is here, although no move yet. Giants likely need to see how Evan Longoria’s hamstring is doing.

Evan Longoria said he’s doing well. He’ll be off today and test hamstring tomorrow. “I’m going to try and play through it,” he said.

He's about the only hitter on this team who should play through minor injuries.

Looks like the Gs preferred a Mercedes to a Ford.

Understandable, I guess.
Neither had been playing catcher much in AAA. That's been mainly handled by Knapp and Pereda. What happened to that guy claimed from the Mets, by the way? He's not on any minor league roster in the Giants' org.

Interesting. I wonder why this wasn't done yesterday and not burn an option on Mercedes (not that would be a big loss)?

And I still wonder what is going on with Patrick Mazeika?

Apparently, there was no intent on Brinson playing in AAA. What the heck? Why not some of the guys who've played well in AAA?

No word yet on who is being sent down. I would guess Gonzalez.

Also burried in the linked story, Vasquez cleared waivers and has been assigned to Sacto, but he has the right to refuse the assignment and become a FA.

Ouch, babe…

Its September 1st, no one has to be sent down. In fact, the Giants can add another player. I would guess it will Yunior Marte or Thomas Szapucki. If they dfa someone else, then maybe its Michael Stryffeler or even Cole Waites or RJ Dabovich.

Of course…

Stryffeler has looked horrible since coming over. I would be surprised if he gets the call. Which, of course, means he is at the top of FZs list of players to call up…

Looks like the Giants aren't calling up any pitchers for the time being. Instead, they called up David Villar. I'm good with that.

I am very OK with that. VR is likely going to be a part of this team next year, even if only as a bench piece. Let’s see as much of him as possible.

Unless Bermudez was dfa'd a couple days ago, I doubt he's been outrighted already.
The story at MLBTR mentioned that issue and confirmed that he had, in fact, already cleared waivers. He was DFA’d without anyone knowing.
