I think the next four roster moves are all clear: Hacktor back, Susser down. Oxy back, Parker down. EA back, Duffman down. Scoots back, Panik down.

Cain looks done for the year, so Biggie is safe.

Unless I missed something, I would guess Scoots is out awhile. They may keep him down until rosters expand.

And whoever goes down at EA's expense will be the weaker link of the platoon (Duffy/Panik). Parker might be able to stick because he's the only bat off the bench with some pop. I think JCP might be the one to send down.

I think Chez would take Susac's spot. Susac should be the one getting consistent time. They both need it though really. We'll see on that one.

And...

Hactor still has options. They may prefer to send him to Fresno for a while first and keep Susac up for the experience.

I could see that one going either way.

I doubt that...Susser will be back in a month for the "experience." Hacktor is the #2 catcher and will be re-inserted into that role.

Much as I love the Susser, catching every day in Fresno is better for him than catching every fourth day in the majors.

You may be right on Scoots; in fact, he may be done as a player for all we know. In that event, Panik stays up.

Parker optioned to Fresno; Ishi gets another couple days in the majors.

I cant imagine anything else would make sense. He gets DFA'd and will certainly clear. He will accept the assignment, or he wont. Who cares.

I commented recently on DFA, and how it often gets mixed up with "outright assignment". The *only* time that a team is supposed to DFA a player is when it needs to immediately make room on the 40-man to add a player. As far as I know, nobody is being added tothe 40-man, so Ishi won't be DFA'd. Ishi doesn't even have to be outrighted (if they don't need room on the 40-man for something they have planned). He *will* have to pass thru waivers, though, to be sent to the minors.

^^^ I agree completely with both points.

Interesting. Why bring Parker up in the first place??

This is my question.

My only answer is that they were going to add him to the 40 in the off-season anyway, and they knew they have 40-manueverability with Cain, Scoots and Ishi, so no damage (except the loss of an option).

Even if we signed Castillo, would he be eligible for the postseason?

Per Bochy:

“Belt was ready a little sooner than we thought,” he said. “Initially, we thought we needed Parker here for the series. (Travis) Ishikawa is going to be our left-handed pinch-hitter and he has experience doing it. Parker was a guy who was going to go back when Belt came back.”

I get all of that. I am just surprised that they added him to the 40 for a grad total of 1 MLB game, in which he did not play.

Assume Belt wasnt available until Milwaukee. It is still surprising to add someone to the 40 for a total of 4 games.

The 'FROD exception' (it wasn't invented for him, but that was the most famous example, at least in Giants history).

Per Baggs:

— Nick Noonan cleared waivers and was sent back to Triple-A Fresno.

But he was in the Halos org. Just not on their 40-man.

Or am I mistaken?

Didn't we use the same loophole on Ford in '12?

We'd probably be able to fit *anybody* (any one player) onto the post-season roster this season, even if signed Sep 29th.

While it may be good intellectual exercise to investigate this point, from a practical standpoint, I suspect we will need Castillo long before Aug 31, much less Sep 29, to even get to the playoffs, much less get anywhere in them.
