Is Duffy an option? He is hitting .337 with an OBP of .407 in a notorious pitcher's league at AA Richmond? He has hit everywhere he has been.

Abreu has never impressed me, and I don't get the staff's love for him. I don't see him like they do, so I have to trust them. Realize Duffy is not on the 40, so there is that.

If Cain needs replacing for a time, the internal talk is Kickham. I think Heston would be better, but again there are 40 issues.

Saw a piece on Detweiler from the Nats, former starter who is young and decent, but has no place in the Nats' rotation. Might he be someone to pursue?

I agree here, Uggla has a very short leash. If he goes 2-40 like Frenchy did, he can start early on his retirement. Hope he lights it up, but not holding my breath.

I just wanna see him outhit Panik/Scutaro/Hicks and not be a butcher in the field.

For next year, yes.

He has played himself, I think, into the top 10 prospects for the org. But you still have to proceed cautiously with him because he entered the org with ZERO pedigree. Not that that is a guarantee that he will not make the majors (look at Pujols and Piazza for two examples of players who were drafted with zero pedigree), but it does make orgs more hesitant to rush them.

I would expect that he goes to ST with a legit chance of making the team, but will likely start in Fresno (or Sacto) and will almost certainly get his cuppo, at least, next year.

Is he wearing #22? That grinds my gears. :mmph:

Better than Whiteside wearing it.

This is just something that our generation has to get used to. It will not be retired. The org has all but stated that as fact. They have some defined calculus for retiring numbers, and one of the requirements is HOF. I think this is ridiculous, but it is what it is.

So who is going to be removed from the active roster to make room for Peavy? Is there a pool going?

I don't think they HAVE to add him until tomorrow because of the trade. However, I suspect it will be Greek. He has done great, but the only other non-DFA option is Machi, and I don't see that happening.

How long is Peavy under contract for?

He has a player option for next year if he throws (I think) 225 innings. He will not get that many, so we have him through the end of this season.

Then he is a free agent. If he does well, we can negotiate to sign him longer term. If not, we cut our losses.

No pressure tomorrow, right?

How so? No room was made. Ishi was not on the 40...
Like I said, just a hunch. We didn't keep Abreu, and I can't believe we are keeping Uggla. By "room" I mean conceptually at 2b.

Purely an uneducated guess.

Why can't we DFA Arias? Or Blank-O? Over both of them.

Because it would serve no purpose.

You don't DFA someone just for the heck of it. You DFA someone because there is someone else in the system who needs the roster spot.

We have no one who is pushing of these guys; arias is signed through next season; they really aren't that bad (Arias is having a BAD year and Blanco is starting WAY too much).
