No way on Earth he can go to Dallas without them first unloading one or both of their existing contracts, which is no easy feat.

The only one of those other teams I could see considering a 1st straight up is NYI. You're looking at #6 and #7 overall for Calgary and Arizona, respectively. I don't see either of those GMs being willing to give up that high of a pick in a one-for-one deal.

I could see something like Fleury and the 30th pick (sorry Sharks fans, I don't see a comeback happening) for 6/7 and a 3rd, but I don't think salary retention alone does it.
Doesn't have to be this year's first. I as well don't expect any pick higher than, say, 20th overall being moved for someone like Fleury. Teams can always make deals for more picks though.

Also, the Leafs have the 30th pick and that is a deal I could definitely see happening.

Of course, James Reimer is a UFA and the Flames could make a pitch for him on July 1st. His numbers aren't anything to sneeze at either and you don't have to give up an asset (pick or prospect) to land him.

Right, I forgot about that. Forgot about AZ owning NYR's 20th pick also. That's definitely a more reasonable option.

And unless the league puts out some pretty definitive statements on expansion, expansion drafts, etc. prior to July 1, I don't think you'll see too many picks for next year moving, because it will be so much harder to value them.

As far as Fluery goes, you've got to trade him if that NMC rules apply to the expansion draft. Murray is younger and (at least next year) 5 million per year cheaper.

In a perfect world I'd love to see both kept, at least for a year. But it doesn't look like it will play out that way. If you have to choose, it's an easy choice I think.
