Soler has the option of opting out of the contract altogether during his arbitration-eligible years, which means that he could make far more than the $30 million guaranteed.

Year by year, through his arbitration years, he can weigh the dollar value in his agreed-upon salary versus what he might make in arbitration.

I don't agree or disagree, but when you have 2 stud 30+ OFers potentially leaving in the next 2 years, you should be in on a 20 Y/O OFer, that could be a better version of Cruz,

especially at 3 million a year over 9 years, if he sucks it up, then no huge loss, its no MY albatross

That is a good contract. If he sucks, then they don't lose too much. If he is a stud, then he can get rewarded without having a holdout or throwing a fit. Cubs played it smart this time. Maybe the new FO will start to pay off. Too bad they are still saddled with bad contracts like Soriano. In a few years the Cubs could have a good young team that contends.

This is just crazy! They clearly had an agreement with him before he was named a free agent and yet baseball is doing nothing to punish the Cubs! They try to punish the Rangers for outworking everyone on the Beras signing and yet nothing is being done about the Cubs! I can't stand Bud Selig the Coward. Any news on the Beras signing. I haven't read or heard anything. I think he is losing valuable minor league seasoning time.
