I went on a 8 night cruise up the east coast last fall stopping in Boston, Portland, St Johns, Halifax, and Bar Harbor. I liked it a lot. For two of us it was about $2300 (around 1700 for tickets and 600 for booze and tips) total which I thought was reasonable.

The only excursion we did was a nature hike at Fundy National park in St Johns. We saw a squirrel!

Yeah that's not a bad price at all. Considering what you get on a cruise I don't understand why people think they are so expensive.

Costa Concordia: captain ‘says he tripped and fell into lifeboat’

The captain of the crippled Costa Concordia cruise ship, Francesco Schettino, has reportedly said the reason he was in a lifeboat while thousands of panic-stricken passengers and crew were trying to evacuate was because he “tripped” and fell into the rescue craft.

Looks to me like Sciurus carolinensis, and what a fine specimen. He was much friendlier than most American squirrels.

And now that I've visited this thread and posted a penguin burial pic in another, I'm getting an Antarctic Cruise ad with penguins in it. :L :L

Cruises are definitely not my thing, and it has nothing to do with recent events. I get far too bored on vacations where I'm just supposed to sit around for long periods of time. And I know there's a lot to do on the ship, but it's not the type of stuff I'm interested in.

Vacation for me usually ends up being more tiring than non-vacation, because I'm big on museums, monuments, etc. and so usually am on my feet all day seeing all that stuff.

Went to Barcelona summer of 2010. Planned to spend an entire day just sitting on the beach. Was totally bored by lunchtime.

I know what you mean.
I had two days just at sea on my cruise and that was about perfect for me or I probably would have gotten bored. The first day at sea was my our first full day on the cruise so having never been on one before it was nice to explore, wander around and relax some. The second day was late in the trip and it was really stormy so it was kind of boring.

All of the crew and passengers that we talked to said by far the passengers on this were by far the oldest overall they have seen. Halfway through the cruise we had heard that two people had died already. The only way it affected us, and it was annoying, is that a lot of the bars closed really early because there were not so many people up late looking for something to do. The plus side to that was the same small group of people would wander around each night looking for the latest place to stay open so we became friendly with some people we may not have otherwise. We were told by a few of the younger passengers to go south to the Caribbean or go earlier in the year to have a younger crowd. I do not want to be up to dawn everyday but I would like to be able to have a drink at 1am if I want.

Also the storm we hit was one of the roughest many of the crew had ever experienced so when you factor in with the age of the passengers we were hearing horror stories about the number of sick and injured people in the infirmary. That didn't affect us, we just heard about it.

I would have never thought I would have liked a cruise, much less like it as much as I did. But after driving to Texas numerous times and driving to New England; I really liked not having the stress of travel itself.

Plus I saw a squirrel.

That sounds eerily similar to how my high school girlfriend 'tripped and fell' into cheating on me...
