on this note: cruises? yay or nay

never been .. probably never will go ... not my bag ... not my cup

just seems like every second episode of Dateline NBC is about a newlywed couple going on a honeymoon cruise and only 1 of them making it back to land

I think I'd enjoy going on one...but they're insanely expensive if you want to actually do any of the events on board. And usually you have to pay for alcohol still. That said, I'd have to have a room above water, because I can't take a claustrophobic/suffocating type feeling.

I had some of these same fears before I went on a cruise and it was the best vacation I ever had.

IMO they are far from "insanely expensive" I got a bit of a deal on mine a seven day cruise out of Tampa to Grand Cayman, two stops in Mexico visited the Mayan ruins then on to New Orleans for about $2000 per person. This included the round trip flight all of your food is included on the ship ....hell you can have a pizza delivered to your cabin at 2:00am if you want and it doesn't cost anything. There is a tipping policy but it's not that bad.

If you consider that $2000 includes your lodging (and the cabins are not that small) your meals, one night is a formal dinner that is great! They have live entertainment and nightly shows in the theater like comedy and other things. They also have a casino on the ship you can lay around the pool on the deck and not have a care in the world. You do pay for any drinks with alcohol in them but otherwise they are free.

I would do it again in a heart beat.

Edit. I should have said that the on board shows and activities are free. Obviously you need to pay in the casino but I really don't think it was that expensive at all. One of my co workers had the same concerns as pix and I talked him into going on the same trip that I did and when he got back he couldn't thank me enough. If you have any reservations about going I would suggest a three day trip first to see how you like it.

For my honeymoon, my wife and I took a Mexican cruise (Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, and Cabo San Lucas). It was a ton of fun. I'd like to do a cruise up to Alaska in the summertime someday with the whole family.

dash, My late aunt owned a travel agency and she went on a lot of cruises. She told me the best one she was ever on was an Alaskan one. I guess the scenery is fantastic.

Cruises are the best vacation ever. All you want for food and just about any kind is available 24/7. The biggest expense is booze. Shows are generally really good and you can choose to do active stuff or just chill on a deck...I suggest the topless version :)

I'd go on a cruise; or should I say, recent events wouldn't deter me. You have a greater chance of getting in a car accident than on a cruise (yet people still drive). The thing is, when something does go wrong, it's all over the news.

That said, I'm probably a little meh'ish about cruises in general.

Give one a try pix you won't be disappointed.

Well...maybe for the honeymoon boss. Hahaha, otherwise, I wouldn't have the money to do that for another 15 years. I'll start saving a dollar a day :)

It's like that old expression... what happens in the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian or their adjoining seas... stays in the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, or their adjoining seas.

Get mid ship cabin IMO. Dont pay for anything you dont need in your cabin cause you will only sleep there.

I think it was easier and shorter to say in its original language?

I know, I know. I left out the Arctic and Southern Oceans b/c hardly anyone goes there and I think it just flows better without them. I'll add them in next time.

You failed your translating class, didn't you. :ohwell:

Oh well. We had lots of fun when you were the translator for Stephen Hawking before he had a computer do it for him. Those were some good times, good times.

Aren't you an inland bird? I'm willing to be corrected by one of the ones below, but I don't think oceans is your area of expertise! ;)

Remember the time you were translator for Stephen Hawking at that lecture in Detroit? You misinterpreted one word and it got the whole place in an uproar. It nearly got Steve killed, 'cause they thought HE said it. I believe the line was something like "Even small black assholes can disappear over time." Ooooooo weeeee, that was funny. :D
