Certainly not trying to criticize your opinion, mine just happens to differ. Just for me personally, if I were on the team and my captain was having issues with health (and a LOT of these guys go through depression as well), I'd just want them to do what ever is best for them, because in the long run, that's what's best for the team. But like you said, just a differing of opinions.

This is my thought.

It's not easy to sit there and watch your leader be unable to do anything. Imagine if the team is in the weight room, everyone's doing their thing, and Crosby has to walk out because he got light-headed and nauseous from some light lifting.

That type of thing brings team morale down more than up.

All I am saying is this is the longest I have ever seen an athlete out of the lineup with a minor concussion. I only say minor because he didnt lose conciousness. Now this far in to his absence when he is allowed to start training he is headed on vacation. Defend him all you want and try to create a decent reason for it, this is some bullshit

Tim Connolly missed the entire 2003-04 season with a concussion, his first ever. In his own words he didn't lose consciousness either.

And before the Connolly = glass comments start coming, at that point in his career, he had two 82 game seasons, one 81, and an 80, so he wasn't dealing with injury trouble yet then.

I guess the biggest reason that I'm defending Sid/the teams choice to allow him some time at home is because of this: you absolutely can not rush this process. Once a player suffers from one concussion, they are that much more likely to suffer from another down the line. So, I want the training staff to do what ever it takes to be certain that he's ready when he returns. I want Sid to have a long and productive career personally.

No need to rush back from a concussion. Ever. Especially though when the team is playing well.

I would like to see Sid back in the lineup like everyone else. I also would like to have a diet composed of only of cookie dough. It's just not a good idea.

Let him rest.

I do not have a problem with Crosby going to see his family during his injury. Plenty of players do not go on road trips when they are hurt, I do not see the big difference with this.

Its not like he is out with a knee injury and was filmed skiing during his time off like Vlad Malakov did.

This has to be one of the most ridiculous threads ever. No you shouldn't expect an update. The Penguins said they would provide information when they had it. I don't expect Bylsma to hold a press conference every day to tell me that Crosby is in exactly the same state that he was in 24 hours ago.

Remember when Staal was injured and during 24/7 Kunitz asked him how he was doing...mentally? And Staal kind of shrugged it off. With no offense to Jordan Staal, Crosby is the most competitive player in the NHL. If it was killing Staal missing time, which it obviously was, Crosby is losing his mind. He basically just lost what looked like a career year for him. Obviously the Cup is the most important thing to him, but I'm sure his personal goals are important to him too. That takes a mental toll.

This team doesn't need an injured Crosby hanging around to tell them what to do on the ice. And while I think Crosby might be reaching Hockey-god status, I doubt his mere presence is going to help the team in any tangible way. This team is doing a great job of holding onto its identity while superstar-less. This will most likely provide benefits in the future.

As of right now, Crosby needs to go as light on himself as possible and look to the playoffs as a possible return. A trip to see family might help him with that and help him focus on recovery instead of what he's missing.

He's going to Cole Harbour to relax with his family, a much more noble pursuit than staying in Pittsburgh and partying for the Super Bowl on the Southside or something.

So you dont think this is due to a set back? If the thread is so ridiculous then why are you posting in it. The thread is relevant, when a teams best player is starting to train and is now headed out of town. I see nothing ridiculous about this thread other than some differing of opinions here.

The suggestion that he is taking time because of anything besides illness or that this is bad for the team is ridiculous and was the premise for his thread.

Discussing his injury isn't.

Opinions aren't all equally valid.

Which would make this a good time to give an update on his status. There really is no reason for the Pens to be secretive is there? Either he has a setback or he just went home for an unknown reason not associated with the injury in any event an update would answer all the questions but in your OPINION an update is unneccesary.

Yes, and given the context, my OPINION is more valid than yours. The Penguins said: we will let you know what we can when we can. We're not giving updates without progress.

Evidence: They told us when Sid was doing light workouts. We have no reason to believe he isn't continuing those light workouts in Nova Scotia.

What's the most logical thing you could assume about the current situation given this information:
A. Sid is an asshole who doesn't care about the team.
B. There was a major setback.
C. No progress beyond light workouts, which means no timeline for return.

Okay, I've gone back and forth over the past 24 hours or so deciding whether or not to lock this thread and I've decided the dead horse has been beaten enough. If anybody has any concerns or questions, send me a PM.
