What the hell is this?

Malkin returning; Letestu out 4 to 6 weeks

He has time to go visit family during the season with these massive concussion symptons that appear to have him out for an entire month. This is turning into a joke if you ask me.

fuck it. If he can't play or practice, at least let him visit his family.
It's not like he's stabbing hookers at the SuperBowl or anything.

My sentiments exactly. If one of us went on worker's compensation for an injury, we too would want to be able to visit family. He can't play or practice, there's not reason to imprison him in...

...well, I can't even think of where you could isolate the guy.

^^^^this.i would think if anything it woukd benefit him.for one thing whenever you see sidelined players at the game they look miserable and beside that point being with family and feeling more relaxed could help speed up not only the physical recovery but the mental recovery as well.take it from someone who has had a concussion they are no fun and they linger I really dont see this as a vacation for him

Well I guess I will disagree, he has been given the green light to start light conditioning and drills.

Being the captain I think he should remain with the team and rehab. He is the "leader" even when he is not playing and should remain a locker room presence. This whole sitting out forever is starting to look like it has motives beyond getting healthy...

Without knowing anything of the actual situation and what may or may not have transpired behind the scenes, I don't question his choices as leader of the team. He's played plenty when hurt, and I think if the opportunity to recharge with his family presents itself and he can do functionally the same level of rehab at home as he can in Pittsburgh... I don't see the harm.

When did he play hurt? He sits out all the fucking time. In fact he has NEVER played every game in a season

At least he is sitting out with a concussion. Malkin is out with a fucking sinus infection.

It's bad enough when asshole fans from other teams talk constant shit about him, so i guess its ok his own fans to follow suit.

And to answer the question "when has he ever played hurt?".... His rookie season he played the last 10 games or so with a separated shoulder. His 2nd season played the last week or so and the first round of the playoffs with a broken foot.

Or maybe that was Malkin, oh no, he was out due to homesickness.

Yes i know that i sound like an asshole but too fucking bad, if you are pissed he took a few days off, go fucking watch football.

Why can't I talk about something I think is complete bull shit. He has been out for over a month with what first was a one week injury. Which all seems to coincide with him having issues the players involved werent punished. Now to add to this he is leaving the team to take a vacation when he suppose to be starting their recovery workouts.

It is an off week for football so that isnt going to happen. Can you seriously think this is cool with all the other players? It is bullshit...I am sure everyone on the team would love to take a break to visit family, what makes him so special? Any true leader would not pull this shit when their team is in a playoff push.

Concussions don't follow the same injury timeline person to person. HENCE WHY THERE IS NO TIME LINE. He's not taking a vacation, and I have no idea why you'd be ticked at him for leaving to be with family when there's nothing for him to do but sit around in Pittsburgh. The treatment for this isn't something you can work hard to heal from, it's merely something you have to sit and WAIT with. If he works too hard too early, he's back to square one. And, trust me, none of us want that. If he was cleared for light workout, I'm sure he did a light workout. However, if he got a headache during that (which seems likely because he left town) he'd be forced to rest again. You can't question his leadership for trying to get healthy, and he doesn't sit out for shits and giggles...he's sitting out because with a concussion you don't have any other option. I understand the frustration with the situation, but you can't say this guy doesn't work hard or play through pain, because he's proven otherwise.
EDIT: Also, knowing Sid's personality, I'm sure the trainers/Bylsma had to force him to go home and take a break. I'm sure Sid's frustrated at this point.

If you honestly believe he is faking an injury because he is pissed at the league i don't know what to say. The guy lives and breathes hockey. If Lemieux, Burkle, Shero or anyone else in the organization has an issue with it he would not have been allowed to go home for a few days.

Maybe he is struggling with the slow recovery process and needs to spend time away from the issue with the support system he has in place.

I am definitely not a Crosby fan. I even had a hard time cheering for him during the Olympics. But I do acknowledge that he is one of the most competitive players in the league. If he was ready to practice or play, he would be practicing or playing.

All I am saying is this is the longest I have ever seen an athlete out of the lineup with a minor concussion. I only say minor because he didnt lose conciousness. Now this far in to his absence when he is allowed to start training he is headed on vacation. Defend him all you want and try to create a decent reason for it, this is some bullshit

They never should have called it a "one-week injury." As Pix said, concussions don't have time lines. The best way to deal with them is rest. I would speculate, as others here have, that during those light workouts, he had a setback (perhaps a headache or some dizziness) and the team and Crosby agreed that the best environment for recovery was his home, surrounded by his family. Personally, I think it's a good idea, getting him away from stress and work.

Dont know if there is a such thing as a minor concussion being as they are very unpredictable but bryce salvadore has been out of our lineup since pre season.Elias missed allot of time last year due to one as well

Minor concussions don't exist, and unconsciousness is not an indication of the extent of the injury. I've been knocked unconscious twice without concussions, for example, but got a concussion another time without missing a beat in the moment. Concussions are tricky business.

Not getting on my high horse, but I'm being educated currently to become an AT, with a future in becoming PA, etc. blah blah blah...but, with this knowledge I can say that I know a great amount about concussions. There's no such thing as a minor concussion. You can't grade them. I say this because everyone reacts to concussions/hits to the head differently. One guy may get concussed and be fine after a few days of rest, but the next guy who got the same force to the head will be out multiple weeks and could develop "post concussion syndrome" where the symptoms relapse and basically you're miserable, yet another guy could take the same hit and not be concussed at all. It varies. But rest assured that Sid's not some pussy who's afraid to play all the sudden. And yes, there are books that say you can grade concussions, but it's a bunch of crap, because it's the reaction the person has after the hit/contact that really matters. You're speaking out of frustration.
