Wow. Looks like too much money by the Bears. But, like we found out with Melton, until we see the specifics it's hard to say. This part jumps out at me as perhaps being what he'll actually get:

"There's wisely only two years and $15.5 million of fully guaranteed money in this deal as Allen turns 32 ".

$8M per year for 2 years and $8M per year for four years are drastically different. I thought the Raiders or the Jets should have pursued him. They both have tons of cap money to spend and both need pass rush help. I'm not sure of Chicago's cap space, but this seems a little questionable to me at first glance. They didn't want to give that to Melton, but gave it to Allen? Strange. I would have passed and drafted a DL. Maybe they do both.

They had to restructure Cutler contract to make room, so they are in about the same boat as the Cowboys when it comes to the cap.

I think Melton preferred Cowboys all along, and Bears were scared of his injury.

Man those Raiders had so much cap space and basically done squat with it. Not saying the players they got are shit... But they definitely could have upgraded their team.

They didn't even keep their own top free agents. They lose their LT & best pass rusher who both are in their prime years....

Then I just don't get this move for them. Like I said let's see what the real contract looks like

From the outside it appears they chose to replace Peppers instead of Melton. They played almost the whole season without him. I think they upgraded their pass rush with Houston & Allen.

according to latest numbers (including the Austin 5.5M) we have around 12.5M available under the cap

Hopefully that is used to sign our own or carried over to next year.

Very seldom do these older free agents go to a new team and play at a high level. I think both Allen and Ware are on the decline. No longer worth the money

They may even be more likely now to draft Donald to replace Melton.

I agree. That is one of the first things I thought of when I saw this. They replaced their DE, not their 3 tech. They also need DBs pretty badly unless they signed someone I am unaware of. But, the Reality is that Chicago may not even like Donald...actually, the Cowboys may not either...

First off many of them sign for less than what they made in their prime, so they aren't expected to be the same players. But, I'm not so sure I agree. Denver recently signed an old, injured FA that turned out pretty well for them. Maybe they are looking for a repeat with D Ware...

strange spotrac shows Ware's hit as $2054000 while overthecap shows his hit as $8571500 which is correct

Spotrac falls behing when Free Agency hits. Usually takes them a few weeks to catch up.

overthecap just recently caught up and listed Melton on the team.

Both have their flaws.... That said they are the best two places to get your information.
