Let’s not forget the luck involved in this championship run. Most notably the unnecessary roughness call on Ahmad Brook against the Saints during their week 11 match up. Not only did the unnecessary roughness call decided the game which the 49ers lost 20-23 but it also decided who was going to win the Superbowl.
Brooks was fined. He appealed his fine and won. Had the refs made the correct call, the 49ers would have finished as the number 1 seed in the NFC via the division tie-breaker with Seattle (SF 13-3,5-1 DIV. SEA 13-3, 4-2 DIV). So it would have been Seattle travelling to Green Bay and Carolina and meeting up 49ers in San Francisco. Seattle has been a house of horrors for the 49ers. Likewise, the Seahawks have the same problem winning in San Francisco. Seattle hasn’t won in San Francisco since 2008.
Luck is part of every Superbowl run. Ravens had it last year. Gaints had it the year before It usually happens every year but with the margin of error being so slim this season. One blown call virtually decided the 2014 Superbowl Championship.
Congrats Seattle. Great season.
