Would it? I thought teams still had cap hit when players retire with term left.

Loungo situation and the complete fucking Shea Weber can give Nashville come to mind.

And if all of this is over an Ankle Injury, why not LTIR the guy?

Only for the over 35 contracts

only +35 contracts.
I was surprised to see he's not 35 yet.

Luongo and Weber are recapture penalties. completely different animal.

Ah.

Probably should close that loophole too.
I don’t think teams should be punished because players decide they’ve had enough CTE primer by the age of 32 when they’re signed until they’re 34. The punishment is losing a talented player, like the Jets are. I think that’s enough lol

I'm guessing buff wanted to retire and walk away from 14 shmill, jets told him to hold off on that decision and their plan was to convince him otherwise over the summer.

He goes home and perhaps some people around him say .... why are u walking away from 14 mill????

The ankle injury/surgery iirc surprised the jets when it was announced.

Perhaps buff thought this was an opportunity to retire and still get paid via ltir ??? His side filed a grievance over being suspended (because suspension meant he was no longer being paid).

Seravellis story mentions a rehab plan was given to buff by the jets and he hasnt acted on that in any way.

As canucks fans have learned (through panthers/luongo), the team has to agree to put the player on ltir. How would the jets have benefited from that move with buff?

Blake Wheeler will never be an NHL GM
'Shoot, we miss that guy': Jets captain Wheeler on Byfuglien's absence

I've been adamant over my time in Winnipeg that I wouldn't trade Buff for anyone in the league, and I meant that
I get the players wanting to defend one of their own, and I get they’re humans just like the rest of us, but there sure is a lot of sob story, “don’t know what he goes through” stuff out there these days for guys who make more in a month than some of their fans will make in 20 years all for playing a sport.

Bottom line is some pretty devoted fans in a small market paid very good money to see a competitive team and had that taken from them. I’m all for seeing it from the players’ perspective but try seeing it from the fans perspective too once in a while. Regardless of how any of this actually went down, they’re losing the most here.

Just heard that x-rays were negative (nothing broken).
His thumbs are ok? Don't want his gaming career to suffer.

/I kid, apparently he's been very good and his game's matured greatly this season. Good for him.

If the Jets beat the Coyotes tonight, they will knock the Canucks out of the second wildcard spot.

Glad to hear that Scheifele wasn't seriously injured, he's one of my favo(u)rite players in the league. I think it was just a freak accident and it sounds like Mark feels the same.
