Toronto just clearing contracts but Taylor Beck is an actual NHL player. The prospects all look pretty second-tierl to me. Grabner is a good add too. Never hurts to have more speed.
Nice deal for him then - gets his rights traded to the Leafs, signs a contract, winds up on a contender.

I think this deal makes sense for both sides. Isles needed to stock up in Bridgeport a bit (definitely curious about Gibson) and the Leafs needed some speed. It could work out great for the Leafs if Grabner can return to his 30 goal form and stay healthy. He'll drive you crazy though because his hands are made of stone.

That Babcock is a hell of a coach - Who needs Auston Matthews?

This team really isn't set up to get Matthews. They'll be picking in the 5-10 range I think.

Well, as we saw last year, you don't exactly need the best chances to land the top pick in the draft lottery.

Also, keep in mind the top three picks are up for grabs via ping pong balls as of this year. Leafs could finish 5-10 and still wind up with a top 3 pick. It may not be Matthews, but there are some other highly touted prospects up for grabs (Chychrun, Puljujarvi, Tkachuk, Max Jones).

I'd like to see William Nylander's brother in the system, too.

I still want him to spend the entire season in the AHL, but... he's obviously an NHLer right now, eh?

Boy he sure is looking like it, isn't he?

I'm of the same opinion, think the AHL would be best but if he keeps this up I don't think you can send him back.

I think you can start him there no matter what he does in camp, tell him you want him to get comfortable playing centre down there. It then becomes a bit of a problem when he scores 2+ points a game down there though.

God if I were a GM I'd be trying so hard to get Vancouver's 1st. Am I way off base thinking that they'd move it?
No freaking way they move it. They are in rebuild mode and they had better know it. They aren't a player or two away from being a contender, so they should not be shopping high picks. Especially as Bennington considers himself a drafting gm.

Refresh...can they start him 9 games in the show and send him down to Ricoh or does that only work if he's returning to his junior team?

Likewise, doubt they'd move it.

And in defence of a guy who has done some pretty dumb things since taking over in Vancouver, I have liked his drafting thus far. I think the top three picks in 2014 in particular are all destined for long, productive careers.

/Gillis' last draft was solid too, in his defence.

I believe that only counts if he's returned to junior or his Euro club. Not the A.

Are you sure that they do though? I don't follow them as closely, but I haven't gotten that impression.
