Keeping both Lilje and Sandin on the NHL roster is interesting.

Alternate the two for 16 games and hope Dermott's back by then and one of them claims a spot?

Both can be moved up and down freely without having to clear waivers, that's probably a decent benefit.

I don't know why I'm giving this time/space that it doesn't deserve but did you happen to catch Postmedia's selections for "most overpaid"?

Two votes for Eriksson and Simmons picked Lucic. Guess who Jim Matheson's pick was? The justification is even worse than the pick.
I could've guessed it but I had to look it up for the justification. I'm dead.

I think that Auston Matthews guy is a great steal though - he's making less than $1 mil in salary this year!

I mean, even putting aside how he fucks with the actual data and uses the yearly salary when the other guys use the AAV

"Nylander should be making $2 million less!"

OK, but doesn't that imply that Lucic and Eriksson are providing at least $4 million in value apiece? Care to defend/explain that one?

He's gotta be made the "target" though.

I also find it funny that I hear a lot of bitching about the money for the "top 4" and how it's going to fuck them when Nylander's AAV is closer to Cody Ceci's than it is to any of the other three. I mean

The fact none of these guys look at that deal in comparison to others, at that length, and thinks "ya know, if this kid turns it around and gets back to raking alongside Auston Fucking Matthews like he did for two years before last year's nightmare this is the best value contract on the team once Rielly's term is up" is very disheartening.

Meanwhile, how long before "Mitch living up to hefty price tag" surfaces when he has another sub-30 goal season but JT gets him to Joe Thornton-level assist numbers?

has Babs burned out Freddy yet? No matter who is skating or how much coin they make it will all come down to can Freddy stop pucks in May as previous results have been mixed at best here

His performance from the trade deadline on leaves much to be feared.

Considering who the backup is, yeah, I'm not entirely confident in the crease at the moment.

Don't know how it works cap-wise but Leafs should claim Desmith.

Unfortunately he's probably making too much $, I don't think it's possible without making another move that might offset the gain anyway.

The Oilers should claim Desmith, but I was watching the Sportsnet season preview show last night and Brian Burke said he likes both of the current Oilers goalies. Now it makes sense why he's no longer a NHL GM.

And for basically the same money, no one took a flyer on Domingue either.

Odd.

The real question is how did they not claim a single player? I look just at the list of guys the Leafs cut and think that most of them look better than every single winger Edmonton has.

Yup, tis a mystery - I wonder how long it will be until Draisaitl is playing on McDavid's wing, I say Tippett tries it for the first 20 minutes against the Canucks until he makes a switch.

Are they seriously not naming a fucking captain? FFS get it over with.

I'd probably just fuck with the media as long as I could if it were me. Hell, I might even name a captain internally but not change the letters on the shirts and tell the whole team that it's nobody else's business who their captain is

They're just waiting for Hyman to come back I think. True Toronto boy. Works hard, great in the room, loves the game.

What they "should" do is:

During the opening ceremonies for the first game:

Have Matthews, Rielly and Tavares stand together at centre ice with their backs to the bench (i.e. not on the blue line with the rest of the team)

Have a red carpet from the bench to centre ice

Line Armstrong, Keon, Sittler, Vaive, Clark, Gilmour, Sundin and Phaneuf along the carpet

Have each of the former captains pass along a folded jersey down the line

Have the last captain (dare they let Phaneuf do this? LMAO) walk up to each of the 3 and one by one behind each of the 3, hold the folded jersey over their head and listen for the crowd reaction

After an appropriate wait, tap Tavares on the back. Johnny T turns around [WHILE THE CHILDHOOD PHOTO OF HIM SLEEPING IN HIS LEAFS BED IS ON THE OVERHEAD SCREENS] and hand him the jersey

John unfolds the jersey with the C on it and puts it on.

Drop the puck.

/and before anyone corrects me, no I did not look to see if they are all alive.

If Dion shows up he's probably going to try and get Dubas drunk enough to sign him to a contract so, yeah, I'm good with him not being there.

Otherwise, this might be what happens lol
