Pour quoi?
Right now the Leafs have two very similar players in Rielly and Barrie. Both are very offensively gifted, great on the PP, top tier d-men who kinda suck at defence.

Let's say after this season, both guys did great. Barrie is UFA and will sign for $8 mil/yr. You have Rielly for another two seasons at $3 mil less. There's a chance he wants more money than what Barrie's asking to stick around in a couple of years. He's also an LD, easier to replace. And of course, trading him means you don't lose him for nothing like they will Barrie if they let him walk.

I think it's something they'll have to consider.

Auston could use a belt (and by belt I don't mean a drink)

It's like Friedman said in his 30 thoughts yesterday:

Two interesting things stood out from conversations about Toronto’s choices. First: I was stunned at how many people felt Tavares picking the Maple Leafs may have hurt them, because it raised the salary bar. He scored 47 goals, takes great care of himself and leads by example. What were they supposed to do, say no?

Like, JT's contract and spot on the roster is the literal last problem the Leafs had in getting this done. He's a guy 30 other teams want. The fact some GM's & agents feel this way should be terrifying to other fans.

Rielly would be a fine captain, too, but I think there's a very real chance he's going to be traded between now and the start of the 2020-21 season.

What's the Bill Veeck line? Something like "It's not the high price of stars that's expensive but the high price of mediocrity"?

I suppose if I'm not going to look up/use the exact quote I shouldn't use quotation marks either haha

But who we calling mediocre here?

I doubt very much the Leaf trade Rielly. I think they move one of their big 3 forwards before they move Rielly.

Maybe. If Nylander has a comeback season his trade value may be better and make a trade (& return) more palatable.

I don't know. I found AM's press conference about the hole incident in Arizona a little weird, didn't you?

Keeping both Lilje and Sandin on the NHL roster is interesting.

Alternate the two for 16 games and hope Dermott's back by then and one of them claims a spot?

I don't know why I'm giving this time/space that it doesn't deserve but did you happen to catch Postmedia's selections for "most overpaid"?

Two votes for Eriksson and Simmons picked Lucic. Guess who Jim Matheson's pick was? The justification is even worse than the pick.
