If I'm the Red Wings, I'd rather sign Matt Niskanen and not give up any assets, than to trade for Edler - maybe Edler is a little better player when he's at his best but Matt Niskanen will probably get close to what Edler has right now in his contract so if you can sign him that would be better than giving up assets

Obviously, the Red Wings and Flyers were watching a different Alex Edler than the one I was watching last season.

/Maybe he looks better in the Eastern time zone :noidea:

On a better team he's probably better - hard to look good on that Canucks team

I don't know, I would counter with Alex Edler was a major reason why the Canucks weren't a very good team last season. Yeah, they had trouble scoring, but they also had big problems keeping the puck outta their own net.

/Lack had a couple bad games down the stretch, but he didn't get much help either.

Dash can you please contain your bias against our team until we trade him so we can get max value thanks :D

I'm starting to like the Canucks again now that they're bringing a "Medicine Hat Tigers" flavo(u)r to the team. Next step is to put Willie Desjardins behind the bench.

The article Matty posted, it talked about how Edler's +/- was due more to the fact that he had bad luck offensively, if his offensive numbers were up a little more he wouldn't have had that piss poor of a +/- - maybe they would have been a little better, but it's hard to pin their struggles mostly on him

I'm pretty sure Edler has a NTC and while Benning has stated he will ask guys to waive (unlike Gillis), the player still holds the hammer.

Maybe there's still a chance that Edler to Boston deal happens

If you're the Canucks, I would at least consider giving up Edler and the 6th overall pick to get the first overall pick, especially if you can get Aaron Ekblad

That might be the type of deal the Panthers are interested in

But I think it is the right move to keep Edler, he's not as bad as what he was this season - the whole team went to complete shit, wasn't just his fault

Definitely the Canucks have to look at all of their options - if Roberto Luongo's big contract can be moved, I think anyone can be moved at this point

What do you think is the bigger need for the Canucks? More offense or better defense? Or maybe better goaltending if the opportunity presents itself?

Bottom 6 to balance it out and I mean ALL of it. We do need an influx of youth that can contribute to replace some aging broken core. I dont expect much of what the canucks do will bring us back to 2009 to 2012 excellence and I suspect we would need much better goaltending than what we have now, but Lack has shown some good stuff for being thrown in the way he was so if the option was a solid acquisition in the F position over a G I would take the F and hope a more structured system (new coach) and a better performed D core could bring back a little glory

Botchford was saying garrison and the 6th for the 1st

Tallon "alledgedly" never wanted to let him go and now the pans "alledgedly" have an owner that wants to spend money

Also saying he played through a broken ankle last season .... Hairline fracture
