I dunno, I would think for 28m I would mentor my replacement...but then that's just me...

The Colts will cut him. He has alreadysaid that Luck should start from day 1 like he did when he came into the NFL.

Plus paying him and Luck all that money doesnt make sense

I read that the Colts owe Peyton a $28M roster bonus, before the trading opens up.

If this is true maybe the contract was written up that way, so in this exact scenario where the Colts go into rebuilding mode then Peyton will get cut and he can become a free agent and go to the team of his choice.

I would not count him out on the 49ers. Let see how Alex Smith vs. Drew Brees goes next weekend. Alex is going to have to be able to hang in the NFL with guys like Brees, Rodgers, Brady.

If Peyton is available and healthy than the 49ers will sign him and I could see him signing with us.

Healthy he has 2 or 3 years left and out of all the teams that would be after him we'd be the most attractive because we'd be his best shot at getting him another Super Bowl in that window.

Would Harbaugh go for that? I think to him this is more than "just business"...I think he sees some parallels with his career and Alex's. I think Harbaugh wants to take that "...underdog...you can't write enough bad stuff about us" the distance with Smith.

I'm a Smith faithful, but if the "head shed" worked a deal and we pulled the trigger on that, I would be dancing all the way to our next Superbowl!

If they want to mentor someone, take RG3 IMO.... Luck could start right now where as RG3, could start, is better off learning from Peyton than Luck would....

IDK...

Eventually the Indianapolis Colts identity, headed by Peyton, is going to change and change it for RG3's style....

Just because the Colts will select Luck doesn't mean they won't trade him.

~fingers crossed~

If Manning came to the 49ers would he be receiving his plays from Roman and would he run Harbaugh's offense?

why would manning sign with the niners? neck injuries and poor offensive lines sounds like a recipe for disaster

I don't think the offensive line is poor but I agree that it wouldn't be a good fit.

not adamant or even against signing another QB, but just don't see us doing it?

anyways, didn't Harbaugh make clear he wants athletic QB's?

I think he did, but even if he didn't say it - he certainly drafted it...

It seems like there are some saying they would prefer Smith to Manning.

Can you guys clarify that?

Quite honestly I think it's a miracle Alex is putting up his numbers. I have no idea how he does it behind a porous OL, horrible WRs, a cripple RB, and a rookie HC. We're 13-3 with Smith. With decent talent around him we're 16-0 the clear favorites to win the superbowl. Clear-cut MVP.
