I think the fact Russia is only going to end up with 20% of the country before they mine the shit out of a DMZ, allow Ukraine to rebuild and arm the shit out of them for defensive purposes is as much a victory Ukraine was ever going to get.

When this launched I said this is the dumbest shit Putin could do and it still is even if they come out of this with some territory. Russia is so fucked for a generation that even with help from other shitty global actors the end of the Cold War may look in retrospect like an era of prosperity. He can have a nice victory parade and swing his cock all he wants, he’s buried his country for a few rocks and natural gas deposits he can’t sell to anybody with real wealth.

But any chance of full repelling of the invasion died this spring when the counteroffensive Kiev launched barely gained them a few square miles. Russia, for all their military faults and corruption, do know enough to dig in and build defensive lines that are nigh impossible to get through. If that didn’t work, along with all the issues regarding troop shortages and the graft you talked about earlier which is fucking incomprehensible, there isn’t much point to continue running the meat grinder. It will be humiliating but its what is best for the future of Ukraine.
