He put himself there, its entirely on his shoulders. Was there a worse QB in the league the last 6 games or so?

My real problem with him came after the season when he didn't want to work with a QB specialist. If you play that poorly and then tell the fans that you arent interested in looking at ways to improve thats not going to sit well with them.

What is his offseason plan to improve? Nobody is asking him questions about his personal life, but football questions about how he intends to improve go with the territory. At this point what I've gotten from him is that there isnt anything wrong with his game (at least in his opinion). That is completely unacceptable.

I don't see where there is value to be found in seeking even one iota of his input on the new HC. If he doesnt think working with a QB guru will help him then why would he want to have a coach who was pointing out his flaws in an interview for the job opening? Based on what he himself has actually said it would seem completely logical that he would least want the guy who might very well be the one most likely to make him better. A new coach wont matter if we get the same Stafford in 2014.

Whether anyone likes him or not there is no denying that our immediate future (the next 2-3 years) is tied to Matthew Stafford. Getting a coach who feels he can work with Stafford should be a top priority and the best way to get a feel for that is to let the potential coach talk to Stafford. Thats not to say that Staffords opinion should matter, but seeing how the two of them communicate is not a bad thing. It certainly doesn't hurt anything.

Another topic I feel is and was blown totally out of proportion and circles back to my comment about him being in a no win situation. This comment makes it sound like the Lions tried to pair him up with a QB specialist and he refused.

What really happened is the media turned this kid into a national punching bag overnight, then had the gall to offer him advice on how he can fix the problems they (the media) decided to reign down on him. All he said at the time is exactly what his HC and OC had been telling him every time his "mechanics" came up in the media. I can't believe people are holding this "Fuck off" answer to a fuck off media question against him.

I can believe it. Big FattyFace has killed two seasons of football with reckless play. Got his offensive coordinator and head coach fired. (Had he not sucked they would be employed, its as simple as that.) Now he gets to dominate the hiring process when he hasn't dominated the practice field. (Jim Caldwell broke down Staffs plays from this season, but has Staff bothered?). There should be more negativity focused on him. He needs to sweat. Even though this franchise decided to hand him everything they possibly could hes going to eventually realize they can't hand him much more. (Id hope he'd realize)

Fuck that shit. Get a coach who can lead your team to wins and out of the fucking basement of the NFL. If your going to base hiring a coach off a player, hire around Suh. Worst case scenario, Staff sucks for three more years and you draft another Staff. There are new QBs at the top of the draft every year. There aren't more Suhs. (So much coddling with #9, for no damn reason.)

Suh is the MVP of the Lions but in today's NFL your QB makes you or breaks you. Why can't the team build around both?

If it's as simple as that, please tell us which teams are knocking down Linehan and Schwartz' doors to be their next HC's? Redskins? Vikings? Browns? Titans? Nittany Lions? Somewhere else?

The impression you give is that Linehan and Schwartz are great coaches and this 25 year QB ruined their lives.

Only Marvin Lewis could survive the disappointment that is John Matthew Stafford's NFL career.

Until Stafford admits that he NEEDS QB coaching in all facets, refinement, the issues at hand with him are a moot point. Hell, Tom Brady had his old mentor/QB coach as a sounding board until he died last year or late 2012. One of the premier QB's to ever play this game and still sought advice, via phone during the season after every game or in person in the off-season. That speaks volumes to Brady's non-diva character in that respect. He was still looking to get better.

What has Stafford done to get better. Stafford had an Ex-College QB (Mike Bobo) at Georgia as his position coach and OC. He was a gunslinger mentality then and is today

Scott Linehan 11–25 record in his 36 games as head coach. How much bad luck can an elite coaching mind like Linehan have??

Oh you mean you want him to be a media monkey and dance for the cameras. This team might not be the best fit for some of you drama queens anymore. They like to keep shit in house now like professionals.

Is your point that he is simply un-coachable by these amazing coaches we just fired aka the Smitty Theory?

If those 2 coaches never demanded Stafford to refine his qb mechanics then the blame goes on them. Schwartz always seemed to defend Stafford to the media for his bone-headed decisions. Who knows what went truly happened at the practice facility or during film sessions.

Schwartz made his mistakes with game management decisions (time-outs, fake fg, challenges) but coaches see what plays should work and it's up to the players to execute said plays. Coaches also become blind to the fact if you go to the well too often and it's dry, you try another one (as in you gotta know when you think you SHOULD HAVE mismatches and they aren't working, get off the play)

Stafford answered that question about needing a QB mentor the same way Schwartz always did, the same way Linehan always did. It was a canned response to the same old media question.
