It takes a rare talent to do both. A Jimmy Johnson, Bill Walsh type.

Correct. The jobs are contradictory. You can't tell a guy he's one of your guys and you have his back and then go ask him to take a pay cut in the offseason.

Luckily for the Niners, Kelly isn't the GM (either in title or duties). He didn't even want the GM duties (not title) in Philly, but he essentially had to take over when they got rid of Tom Gamble.
That's not how I remember it playing out...

From Walterfootball:

9ers hire HC Chip Kelly: YORK Grade
Unreal. Only the 49ers would make such a stupid hire. This literally is a "YORK" grade.

Chip Kelly single-handedly destroyed the Eagles. He didn't understand that talent trumps scheme in the NFL, and he couldn't relate to any of his players. Had he taken some time off and learned actual pro concepts, perhaps he'd stand a chance at his second gig.

But not right away. Kelly is a disastrous hire made by a capsizing franchise in complete disarray. I don't see how he can possibly turn things around. It's a good thing that he won't have much of a say in personnel moves, but it won't matter. I'm sure Kelly will try to resurrect Colin Kaepernick's career, but that won't work because Kaepernick has no aspirations to study film or improve the mental part of his game. Kelly will probably be fired in two to three years.

You could apply for the Niners HC in 2 yrs when Chipper leaves for college.

NO thanks that team will be even worse off then it is now. Your right Chip is a good college coach that can run that Pac 10 or Big 12 BS when you have 100 players on the team

"As Kelly plotted his next NFL stop, per NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, he was hatching plans to sign or trade for Kaepenerick as his next quarterback project."

Why???!!!

In future news one year from now:
  • Colin Kaepernick is still retarded
  • The 49ers have another high draft pick
  • The 49ers are looking for a new coach

They gave Kelly a 4 year $24M contract. 49er's for better or worse will be stuck with him for at least two seasons at the very least.

Something like Jason Garrett, huh?
Garrett is not exactly Jimmy Johnson but Chips style will wear thin quick and its just a opinion which along with others is as useful as a tear in a rainstorm

LOL

The interesting part is that with a 49ers, Titans or Browns organization, Chip Kelly running amok can't do any more damage than has already been done. They can't go any lower.

I'd say Chip Kelly just did an amazing thing. Completely devastated an NFL franchise and somehow was rewarded with a major job upgrade. How is this possible? :L

Up next for the 9ers, the draft and FA. I know Baalke reportedly has a boner for Jared Geoff from Cal. But he's not the type of QB that Chip likes so let the games begin. Feel bad for Geoff if he does get drafted by them because it will probably destroy his career.

At the same time, who the hell besides underachieving garbage will want to sign up for Kelly as coach. Grossly overpaying them will be the only option and there goes the salary cap.

Yep, kids coming out of high school will buy into the sleep monitor/natural smoothie success theory if they want to win a National Title and its a good sell to get top talent. Just doesn't work in the pros. The start of Chipper's down fall was getting rid of taco day. Too me that's unacceptable!
