If Chase and Sweat only come up with 12.5 sacks between them this year. I seriously doubt either one gets a big money offer from the Skin. We're talking about guys who as you said in post #14, produce. Receiving legit 1st team all pro consideration as I said in my post would be a good indicator that they produced.

As for Payne n Allen coming in lower than projected. At present Allen is the 8th highest paid DT in the league and Payne is the 3rd highest paid DT. I do believe its possible that Allen gave the Skins a slight hometown discount as from all indications he's playing for the team he rooted for as a kid. Not so sure about Payne, but that's beside the point. If both Sweat n CY have big years, particularly with sacks, both their agents will surely classify them as edge defenders/rushers. Below are the highest paid edge rushers for 2023. With productive years (double digit sack numbers, QB pressures, TFLs and solid otr better run defense both CY n Sweat are looking at what? 24.5 mill a year? That's what? 89, 90 mill a year for 4 starters who will all be playing very similar positions. And we've yet to factor in Curl who you as well as myself believe he deserves to get paid. Highest paid safeties are below. I'm think Curl is gonna be looking for 10 mill per at the very very least. So 100 mill or damn near tied up in 5 players. You see that as both feasible and sustainable?

  • 1. Steelers edge rusher T.J. Watt: $28 million
  • 2. Chargers edge rusher Joey Bosa: $27 million
  • 3. Browns edge rusher Myles Garrett: $25 million
  • 4. Chargers edge rusher Khalil Mack: $23.5 million
  • 4. Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby: $23.5 million
  • 6. Dolphins edge rusher Bradley Chubb: $22 million
  • 7. Bills edge rusher Von Miller: $20 million
  • 8. Saints edge rusher Cameron Jordan: $17.5 million
  • 8. Titans edge rusher Harold Landry: $17.5 million
  • 10. Buccaneers edge rusher Shaquil Barrett: $17 million
  • 10. Raiders edge rusher Chandler Jones: $17 million
  • Chargers safety Derwin James: $19 million
  • 2. Steelers safety Minkah Fitzpatrick: $18.2 million
  • 3. Seahawks safety Jamal Adams: $17.5 million
  • 4. Falcons safety Jessie Bates III: $16.01 million
  • 5. Vikings safety Harrison Smith: $16 million
  • 6. Broncos safety Justin Simmons: $15.25 million
  • 7. Cardinals safety Budda Baker: $14.75 million
  • 8. Bears safety Eddie Jackson: $14.6 million
  • 9. Titans safety Kevin Byard: $14.1 million
  • 10. Ravens safety Marcus Williams: $14 million
those numbers will change but i look at what sweat and clowney have produced and you can make an argument that that they might be on par with 8-10 at best

curl could be top 10 so i wont argue that but i will say that our safety position has been getting deeper

Lions took Okudah @#3 overall right behind Young. He also missed the majority of two seasons with injury. They just traded. Him for a 5th round pick, and Atlanta actually had the option to pick up his 5th year option, which theoretically raises his value.

Young has more value than Okudah at this point, but there's no guarantee that he would go for a high pick or will be signed to a big enough contract to get a 3rd round comp pick.

All very true. That being said, for less than a two, we should just keep Young. He plays a premium position and is an athletic freak. If he gets 6-8 sacks, we will get at least a 4th for him as a comp pick. Young plays a premium position and has done more than Okudah.

Commanders 2023 and future salary-cap outlay

below are the cap numbers . now 83 mil pays for all 3

"Let's say all 3, CY, Sweat n Curl get down. Like legit 1st team all pro consideration get down.

How do you propose to pay both Young n Sweat 22+ million per n Curl 10 - 14 mill?

And please don't simply say the cap will increase."

that is your quote breed

so do i have to keep entertaining this "we dont have the money crap " from everyone ? i said this 3 yrs ago and so far it has held true

83-58=25 mil left over

now please dont tell me it will cost 30 mil a piece for clowney and sweat and 25 mil for curl

the point is based on your numbers we have the cap room and perhaps you have room for samuel and AG as well and you havent made a cut

now all this being said , new ownership may choose a different path and that is a choice not a mandated economic issue

the bottom numbers come from over the cap so they will be close to being right or as much as the common fan can get

Where CY was drafted is a non-issue at this point. Does he even start here? Take a 2nd and a 5th and move on.

My only point is if you let this play out, you lose compensation. Make a decision on who you will keep, Sweat or Young and move the other. Otherwise, you get a comp 3rd which is bad business which has been the norm around here.

If we trade Sweat, we could likely get a second, maybe a first. If we do that, we may not have any good DEs.

What offers have we got for Chase that are better than a compensatory third? You can’t ship what people don’t actually want.

in dont think its an either or proposition. as shown above we can keep both if they produce , so i am looking for 1st rounders if i make a trade . but the monkey wrench in all of this is when will new ownership be in place ?

Actually I believe either will fetch a 1st rounder. Dangle the carrot and see who comes calling. As of yet, the organization has failed to do so unless anyone has heard differently. Can we really afford to pay both players when this year is up if they BOTH produce?
