As the latest arbitrary CBA "deadline" approaches, MLB has reportedly increased the CBT (competitive balance tax) to $228 million in their newest proposal, which is just shy of a $229 million starting midpoint with the MLBPA.

The offer does not provide much growth beyond a starting point however, as the owners' offer has fewer than one percent growth by 2026 at $238 million. The MLBPA would prefer to start the current CBT at that level and see a steady rise with revenue, but this is at least a move in the right direction. The owners have given the players' union a new deadline on Tuesday to resolve the CBA while still playing 162 games. If there is no agreement, more regular season games are expected to be cancelled.

MLB owners did not increase their pre-arbitration bonus pool offer of $30 million in their latest CBA proposal, a sticking point that remains a key issue with the players union.

MLB did increase the opening tier of the CBT in their latest offer, but they remain far apart from the union on key issues like the pre-arbitration bonus pool. The number of players who would be subject to receive a raise from the bonus pool is another topic yet to be settled upon. The last proposal by the MLBPA had the bonus

According to Evan Drellich of The Athletic, MLB and the MLBPA met in person Tuesday morning for CBA negotiations.

The details of the meeting are currently unknown, but with another owner imposed deadline looming there are likely to be further discussions throughout the day. MLB suggested that a full 162-game season is possible if a deal can be reached on Tuesday.

Looks like they're gonna try to shoot for a 154 game season.....but when that'll even begin is still anyone's guess.
After roughly a 3 or 4 week Spring Training period of exhibition games in the Grapefruit & Cactus leagues......it could be sometime around mid April to finally get to an "Opening Day".

need a contract 1st

The negotiations toward a new collective bargaining agreement will resume on Wednesday morning.

An official from MLB's side of the talks told the gathered media in New York City at about 3:05 a.m. ET that the Major League Baseball Players Association had requested a meeting of its board before officially putting forth a counterproposal. So this will all pick back up after both parties grab some rest and engage in what could be a final round of internal and then shared discussions. That the union is acting so deliberately on a past-deadline offer to the owners might actually be a positive development at this juncture. For now, Major League Baseball has delayed a decision on the possible cancelation of regular season games.

We’ll see.... and I’d be totally okay with that IF, that were to happen. But until a contract agreement is reached and signed by both sides, it’s all just wishful thinking.
I was only putting that post of mine out there into the universe as sort of an impetus and hoping it somehow becomes a positive cause and effect type of scenario.

Cool......hopefully they do a 2 or 3 year contract to get this season going instead of the typical 5 yr deal which both parties always become upset over in the middle because of it's length and terms.

Agree to the 2 yrs for now and go from there to revist/revise/re-up/re-do another mutual contract in 2024 or 2025.

Spring begins in about a week and a half.
Time to play ball.

Players are a joke. Fuck em

TBF....It's not just the players, bro.

Pretty soon every municipality involved will begin feeling the pinch...as their usual tax generated revenues from MLB games is no longer coming in.

Almost time to bring in an independent mediator/arbitrator to resolve this nonsense.
