Everyone can agree that for whatever reasons, Jay and the Bears have not got it done, but to pin it all on Jay, or to completely alleviate him of any blame is equally ridiculous.

I agree. Arguments derived from absolutes( i.e 'always' and 'never') arent convincing. Those derived from results of a particular body of work are a better starting point.
