49ers Blog and Q&A: Goldson's thump: "Vince Lombardi would be proud."

Left tackle Joe Staley said he lost 10 pounds and was battling a 104-degree fever just days before Monday's game. The diagnosis, Staley said -- pneumonia. "I was pretty sick Sunday through Thursday," said Staley, who said his weight dipped to 288 pounds. "I wasn't sure if I was going to play."

He said he gained about half of that back over the weekend and estimated he played Monday's game at 295 pounds. He said he needed an inhaler during the week and used oxygen on the sideline Monday.

Some highlights:

it was inevitable that Aldon Smith would put up one of his most productive games of the season this week. Smith did just that registering seven pressures, just short of a season high, and five stops en route to his highest pass rushing grade (+3.3) of the season.

-----

Building upon solid seasons to date both Chris Culliver (+3.8) and Tarell Brown (+5.1) recorded the highest single game grades of their careers as they got their hands to an astonishing eight passes combined, with Culliver collecting one interception and Brown five pass defenses. Between them they allowed only 5 completions on 19 targets for a miserly 43 receiving yards; allowing a combined QB rating of 17.6 to John Skelton on these throws. Brown’s five pass defenses were as many as he had recorded in his prior 16 games dating back to the Cardinals’ visit to San Francisco in Week 11 of last season.

-------

Dockett himself played an important part in ensuring that 49er RG Alex Boone (-2.6) had his worst game of the season as he collected a sack against the impressive first year starter late in the third quarter. The Cardinals’ star studded defensive end pairing collected a combined ten defensive stops, including one sack each, with Calais Campbell (+2.3) looking particularly impressive with his five stops in run defense.

--------

- But for a shotgun run (11 yards) against a 49er defense playing prevent to end the first half the Cardinals would have recorded negative rushing yardage in this game.

John Skelton had a higher QB rating under pressure (82.1) than when the 49ers failed to get pressure on him (63.6).

Final review: 49ers 24, Cardinals 3 | 49ers Hot Read

How will they spend the week? Randy “I’m still scoring touchdowns” Moss tweeted that he’ll bunker in with family, and other teammates will surely do the same with theirs. Injuries aren’t a major concern, and Monday’s only reported casualty was offensive lineman Daniel Kilgore with a concussion.

---

– Asked if there’s any correlation between Smith finding a rhythm and Colin Kaepernick not making a single cameo, Harbaugh replied: “No. No. More gobble, gobble.”

Smith-Crabtree connection picks up where run game left off

Left tackle Joe Staley, who lost 10 pounds last week with a nasty case of pneumonia, said he saw a TV interview earlier Monday in which one of the Cardinals defensive backs said their goal was to make Alex Smith try to beat them.

"And he beat their (butts)," Staley said.

Staley has been a little more mouthy lately.

San Francisco 49ers – Niner Insider Blog – SFGate.com 49ers’ defense shuts down Cardinals

Still, safety Donte Whitner highlighted another star, Vic Fangio.

“I honestly believe we have the best defensive coordinator in the National Football League,” Whitner said. “He’s a very smart guy, very prepared, and that’s why we played the way we played.”

Shhh!!!!! Shut up Whitner! Don't want him to leave for somewhere else, college or pros. Say that it's all the personell. ;)
