They were wrong too.

They offered those classes to all students so it did not violate NCAA rules. That was an accreditation issue.

The trust is not a bad idea but getting paid directly is.
ncaa rules are stupid fucked ,and arbitrary. The school gave passing grades to hundreds of athletes so they would stay eligible but were smart enough to let some regular students take the sham classes also . That doesn't make the athlete and school any less cheaters.

Correct, they are not interested in helping out athletes. They are out to destroy what they consider the patriarchy of America and what better place to start than dismantling collegiate sports. Throw a brick in the machine and see what happens.

How much is a scholarship worth at Berkley or UCLA or any other college in California? These liberals are out of their fucking mind.

Just because they have over inflated the value of a scholarship does not mean there is fair compensation happening. College sports generates billions, and it is not enough that the don't want to pay a wage, but they also block their ability to profit of their name and likeness.

What do yall think the impact on football would be if the NCAA didn't intervene? Think California's teams would perform better or have an unfair advantage if they openly paid their players? Would we find out they still weren't paying enough to matter?
I think schools would just stop selling anything with players names on them and stop using their "likeness" in anything paid. It's an easy law to work around.

The Pac12 holds all the power here, IMO.

Can you imagine a guy like Zion having to choose between getting a Nike contract and playing for a team in the Pac12 for a year, or playing at Duke and waiting to get his Nike contract?

The NCAA will cave quickly, as I imagine the big programs won't want the Pac12 to have ANY advantage in recruiting. Many players (especially 17-18 year olds) will be about "show me the money". If they don't have to break rules to do it in the Pac12, what would keep them from going there?

If we want to pay college athletes then remove tuition, room and board. It's that simple. No more free rides and no more free nutrition plan either.

Without NCAA approval, it won't float.
That bill will get signed off and become law in the state of California. Those politicians couldn't give two shits about the ramifications of what they're doing. If there's something that can be passed in that state that's totally fvcked up you can bet the farm it will become law.

What kid is going to want to play in a conference that only plays themselves and nobody else? The attendance on the west coast is dismal as it is not to mention nobody will pay jack shit for the TV rights. California will find itself isolated ... as it should for being stupid fvcks. Actions have consequences.

I wont disagree but the lawyers at the NCAA wrote those rules and the lawyers at NC out smarted them.

I would think that would make the impacted Cali schools just go to Independent status? Or is there a bigger impact to where they cant compete in Div 1 football?
Like was mentioned in this thread by a previous poster ... Chinese football league would be my guess. California bans state travel to several states over some bs bathroom laws but they don't have a problem spending state money on government visits to communist China.

I disagree. As others have said if the California schools can only play themselves how will a recruit show off their skills to get a top pro contract.

Hates California. But his fav school (along with every other school out west) Needs California players to compete.
Hates Seattle and liberal Washington but runs FB fan pages for Huskies and Seahawks full of liberal Seattle people and a coach Carroll whos about as liberal as you get.
The irony.lol

What if this pushes the NCAA to compensate players for the use of their image? I thought we are a free market system or are we communists?
If you think USC's recruiting sucks now wait until this law passes and SC is down to playing UCLA, San Diego St. and San Jose St. twice a year just to make a full schedule.

Let them get paid. Strip them of scholarships and all of the benefits that come with it, they have to pay a set amount for coaching and facilities that will be the same for every team across the country, and they can pay taxes on their income.

Do NFL players pay for their training staff? Pay their coaches? Meals on the road? Fllights to games?Training facilities? They get half of the pie BTW.

Athletes pay for their own medical insurance, pay for their own homes, living expenses.

And you do realize that most athletic departments lose money, right?

I agree with removing the tuition and that garbage. Amateurs are still allowed to profit off their likeness. There is no reason for NCAA to block that.

The athletes are generating billions in revenue, and allowed access to none of it because of an arbitrary distinction.

So if your choice was between being a millionaire right now and playing in an inferior league (with pretty much a guarantee that you would be playing as a professional), as oppose to playing in a bigger league for little to no pay, you would forego that?

Outside of USC, Washington and Oregon ... attendance in that PAC is probably lower than your average Texas high school football game. Nobody will see those kids play in person or on TV.

I disagree. As others have said if the California schools can only play themselves how will a recruit show off their skills to get a top pro contract.

How many top end athletes need to go to these schools to make the competition good enough for recruiting purposes?

Once the top recruits start signing with Nike, UA, Adidas, you don't think it won't open the floodgates to other high end athletes?

Honestly, you think a kid like Zion would have still gone to Duke, if he had the choice of UCLA and a multi million dollar Nike contract?

Again, you guys need to view this from a 17-18 year old perspective. It wouldn't take but a few top athletes to make the jump, and once they started instagramming their sports cars, and bling, you would have more and more going that way.

Heck, I bet many would transfer out there and be immediately eligible if Nike and Adidas told them they would pay their way.

Why does attendance matter to these kids? They would play in an empty gym if you gave them a half a million dollar shoe contract.

Money trumps everything. More people will watch if they get a few top athletes to take the money.
