Hell, 4th and 30...

Regaining possession after a score should be something that really takes a helluva lot to pull off.

Whatever the percentage of onside kick recoveries is over the last decade is what the equivalent of the down/distance they go with. If 7% get recovered... then make it the down and distance which gets converted 7% of the time.

Also, I would assume this also eliminates kick-offs entirely... right?

yep, it is so rare that an onside kick is recovered, they would need to make it difficult to convert, especially considering DPI is very much in play.

Not sure I like the idea in general right now until they completely eliminate kick offs

Great guess. Last year there were 52 onside kicks and 4 of them were recovered by the kicking team......so 7%!
what was it before the rule change? in the 20's maybe?
They just need to let onside kicks be like it used to be.
Sure you cant surprise onside kick with a different set of rules, but I am sure all the teams would like the chance to recover one vs. surprise with one, that once in a blue moon.

This report is coming from Yahoo sports:

The Denver Broncos propose fourth-and-15 play in lieu of onside kick. The rule change, would give a team the chance to convert what would essentially be a fourth-and-15 situation from its 35-yard line after a fourth-quarter score to retain the ball. Each team would be given one such opportunity per game, and the rule change would not eliminate onside kicks or kickoffs. With that being said, is this a good idea for the NFL to adopt, or should the league stick with onside kicks, what say you SportsHoopla?
No.

Don’t like it. Onside kick is part of the game.
Agreed but I don't like the fact that they can no longer get a running start to go after the onside kick. Makes it nearly impossible for the kicking team to recover.

4th and 25 and ANY penalty on the offense results in a n automatic turnover on downs. Make these things very dicey to do.

John Mara is the only one on the competition committee that is opposed to this.
It looks like it will pass.

I hate gimmick rules. This has absolutely nothing to do with the normal flow of the game. Instead of kicking, you run an offensive play? Too left field for me.

Bingo.

On a brighter note it seems the snivelling out of KC about OT is falling on deaf ears.

Does this mean they can't sneak one in on you like has been done with fairly decent effect in the past?

THAT is the number reason it’s a dumb rule change.

Well done!

So they passed the review of PI rule. Only if it's called. You can't review to get one called but if it's called you can use it.

I can't recall when the PI happened against the Rams. If it was before the 2 minute warning they might still have been screwed because Payton wastes his challenges. Inside of 2 minutes the booth takes over.

I don't think they increased the number of challenges either so it's still 2 , 3 max if you challenge correctly.
