Agreed and I don't really care, but I had 2 questions about it. What did the thief think he could do with it? And if he's been doing it for years, why wasn't this fleshed out in 2015?

Brady knew it was missing. It just wasn't publicized in the national media. The first jersey might have just gotten lost, but when a 2nd jersey went missing, then suspicions arose that someone was systematically stealing memorabilia.

The 2nd jersey was only publicized because news cameras happened to pick up Brady asking others about its disappearance, and the FBI probably wanted the earlier missing items kept quiet while the investigation was ongoing because it would tip off the thief that they were on to his pattern.

He could sell it (it was already estimated at $500,000, and the mystique attached to the jersey being missing would only serve to drive the price up higher), but since the thief was caught with so much Super Bowl memorabilia, it's perhaps more likely he just wanted the items for his personal collection.
