Quarterback: Alex Smith, SF (+6.0)

Remember when Smith was a bust? Remember when the 49ers tried to upgrade with Peyton Manning? All a distant memory, with this performance against Buffalo one of his career high points. The stats, including a mind boggling 12.6 yards per attempt, really do him justice
.

------

Full Back: Bruce Miller, SF (+4.0)

A fantastic display of lead blocking from Miller who looks intent on bettering his impressive rookie year.

------

Tackles: Joe Staley, SF (+4.6) and Tyson Clabo, ATL (+3.6)

Staley didn’t help himself with two penalties, but his run blocking and pass protection was so good outside of that he just earned the nod over both Nate Solder and Andrew Whitworth. On the right side, Clabo gave up one pressure and kept Ryan Kerrigan quiet so convincingly you almost forgot what Charles Johnson was able to do to him last week.

-------

Guards: Logan Mankins, NE (+6.0) and Alex Boone, SF (+3.8)

You can’t keep a good man down, right? Mankins has looked a shell of himself since his ACL injury, but was at the top of his game against an overmatched Broncos interior. While it was redemption for Mankins, it was more of the same from Boone. It’s amazing to think he was riding the bench while Adam Synder was starting last year.

------------

Center: Jonathan Goodwin, SF (+4.5)

Perfect in pass protection and excellent with his run blocking, Goodwin rightly earns his spot as the fifth 49er to make our offensive side of the ball.

In addition to pointing out any 49ers or Bills player, I also had to also point out Adam Snyder:

https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2012/10/09/had-a-bad-day-team-week-5/

Quarterback: Ryan Fitzpatrick, BUF (-4.8)

Another substandard display from a quarterback who continues to make a mockery of the deal Buffalo handed him. Just 126 yards and a terrible interception marked out another poor performance as Fitzpatrick was again culpable in a display that shows just how far south the Bills’ season, that promised so much, has drifted.

---------

Tight End: Scott Chandler, BUF (-2.3)

He picked up 40 yards, but his fumble at the end of the second half turned the game and he also dropped a pass. After a strong start to the season this was a letdown from Chandler.

-------------

Guards: Amini Silatolu, CAR (-3.7) and Adam Synder, ARZ (-4.0)

The Panthers rookie guard had his hands full against an active Seahawks defensive line, while Snyder managed to give up three sacks in another one of his ‘vintage’ displays.

--------------

Center: Eric Wood, BUF (-3.3)

The Bills’ offensive line is famed for not giving up pressure, so to see their starting center give up a sack, hit and two hurries… well, it’s not good.

--------------

Defensive Front 4-3

Defensive Ends: Mark Anderson, BUF (-6.1) and Will Smith, NO (-5.5)

Buffalo has to be worried about their investment in Anderson. They tried moving him about but he drew a blank in the passing game, though he did add two stops in the run game. Smith found himself swallowed up by Jared Gaither, doing what damage he could against tight ends and when Rivers was flushed from the pocket.

----------------

Defensive Tackle: Marcell Dareus, BUF (-7.1) and Kyle Williams, BUF (-4.0)

If you saw the Bills get bullied by the 49ers’ offensive line it won’t be a surprise to see both men on this list. Williams was bad, but the performance of Dareus really had to be seen to be believed. It doesn’t matter if you’re a first-rounder or an undrafted free agent, there’s really no excuse for that performance.

---------------

Defensive Front 3-4

Defensive Line: Justin Smith, SF (-2.4), Dan Williams, ARZ (-2.2) and Jerel Worthy, GB (-2.5)

While Williams was only on the field for 31 snaps his failure to make an impression on a Rams offensive line beset by injury was disappointing. He’s surrounded by Worthy of the Packers who didn’t help his cause with two penalties, and Justin Smith. Whisper it quietly but while the 49ers defense is excelling, Smith isn’t quite playing near the level he did last year.

Bills 3 – 45 49ers (last updated 13:30)

Snap Shot

Bills Offense: The Bills spent only five plays in either 12 or 21 personnel, and used three or more receiver sets on 87% of plays.

Bills Defense: Heading into the game, Mario Williams had yet to line up on the right side of the line. Well, against the 49ers this changed significantly. He found himself on the right side for 20 plays (30.8% of plays he was on the field for).

49ers Offense: It wasn’t the first time, but Will Tukuafu spent more snaps on the offensive side of the ball (17 snaps) than on defense (5). He matched the play count of Bruce Miller.

49ers Defense: You wouldn’t expect Aldon Smith to drop into coverage very much, nor does he. He spent 17.6% of passing plays in coverage prior to a Bills game where that number was 15.4%.

Stat Attack

Bills Offense: So you know Ryan Fitzpatrick’s day didn’t go well. The 126 yards are evidence of that. But did you know on the nine plays he faced pressured he was sacked once, threw a pick and completed only three passes? That gave him a 13.1 QB rating.

Bills Defense: Don’t be down on Mario Williams. He was the only Bills defender to earn a grade in the green, which came on the back of his two hits and two hurries rushing the passer. The total grade of the defense was a pitiful -34.4, one of the lowest grades we’ve ever awarded.

49ers Offense: An easy day at the office for the 49ers’ dominant offensive line. Including the backups that came in, the team had a collective grade of +17.1, helped by allowing no sacks and only one quarterback hit (the other came from Alex Smith holding onto the ball for too long).

49ers Defense: The 49ers’ starting defenders missed only one tackle, while the backups came in and missed three.

Speaking of Snyder.
Cardinals announce five-year deal with Adam Snyder | ProFootballTalk
I love some of the comments. Man people can be totally clueless.

While I do think personnel people probably saw him and might still do see him in a different light than many of us fans, this comment is my favorite:

This guy is awesome and was huge for the 9ers; he played every o-line position when asked. The big draft pick, Chilo Rachal, is awful and this guy continuously cleaned up his messes every year.

Hate to hear this. 9ers should have a better replacement in mind, as long as it isn’t Chilo!!! Release that cat…

Synder is a David Bass type of player.

Chris, I think this one is mine...
"...uberniner says: Mar 15, 2012 2:42 AM

He filled in ably at center, guard, and tackle. He outplayed everyone else at those positions when we needed him most.

Give the guy a break. He may be a journeyman, but the niners will be worse off without him..."
