Not surprised at all - He doesn't want the stress of being head coach. He could have easily had the Lakers the year Mike Brown was fired and he would have done one hell of a better job then DumbAssToni. What a waste that one of the best coaches in the NBA, flatly refuses to be a head coach - and he is one of the better ones

I thought Bernie was kind of old be out there coaching still, but when some one throws out millions of dollars, I know I would come running.

Brian Shaw is said to be on Luke Walton's short list as an assistant, but some are saying that Jim Buss is not enthusiastic about bringing back any of Phil Jackson's former assistants. Shaw helped win titles though as a player and as an assistant coach. I think he would be a good addition

You are forgetting your boy Mike D. He is also considered for Houston. Harden would bust plenty of nuts if he become coach. Defense would be banned from practice.

I've never even heard of a coach saying he'd rather be an assistant on a championship team than become a head coach. Let alone, go to a 17 win team rather than be a head coach. It may have happened, but I haven't heard of it.

Best example I can think of was in college.

Richie McKay was a head coach at Liberty, where Seth Curry played his freshman year. When Tony Bennett got the job at UVA, McKay left Liberty to join Bennett's staff. Even in that situation though, it was clear that Virginia had the superior team (even though Liberty beat them in McKay's last season as head).
