-Great SCF series
-Blackhawks win their first cup in 50 years
-Cinderella stories in the Eastern conference during the playoffs
-Best ratings for a Finals' series in a long time and lots of town set high ratings marks this year
-Exciting Ross and Richard races that came down to the final game of the season
-Continued emergence and dominance of players under the age of 25
-NHL's bottom line got better this year despite a down economy

A lot of things to be happy about this year if you are a fan of hockey.

Meh. I'd still go 2005-06. It had pretty much all of the above (probably not television ratings), plus the resurgence of several of the 1990s All-Stars.

Carolina over Edmonton? Pass on that alone. Plus, it was unclear if the league's future was even secure. I think that was a really bad year for hockey.

2006-07 was my favorite regular season, while last season was my favorite year a whole.

Completely homer reasons though. This is probably the best year for the NHL and hockey. Especially if you add the Olympics to your list.

I think it was a great year for hockey. Ratings were up across the board. Playoffs were great to watch. Olympics were very good. overall a very fine year.
Kings made the playoffs. That alone made it a good hockey year for me.

However; last year I won a contest that let me spend a day with Luc. Best hockey day ever. We talked hockey, pizza, cars, and other stuff. On the day I met all the Kings staff/announcers several players, a couple of actors, Bruce McNall sat with us at dinner, Heidi Androl interviewed me on TV oh and the Kings lost to the Red Wings 5-0 but who cares. Luc game me a bunch of limited addition stuff including a pair of tickets from his last home game. On wife's ticket he wrote "to Andrea, LA Kings #1 fan" yes he knew she is a Ducks fan.

Good addition by the people mentioning the Olympics with a great US-Canada finale.
