Since we had so much participation in this we could do one for QB's after this is completed if y'all think that's cool...

Sayers was on the list and the TD that got knocked off was Terrell Davis...

OK

(OJ > Jim Brown unless we are talking fullbacks or something. If fullbacks, then we should probably add Larry Csonka and John Riggins to the list)

Franco Harris was a FB and he made the top 16...

Jim Brown is to RB's to what Joe Montana is to QB's

Sanders was much more superior to anyone on the list. Would take payton second and brown third.

Barry was the most exciting, but far from the best. Taking a water break on every 3rd or 4th and 1, killing your defense with drive killing -4 yard runs on 5 or 6 drive's a game and then busting one 80 yard run against a team defending pass because the Lions were down 30 looks nice, but has little to do with winning. The best ever, Jim Brown, Emmitt Smith, Sweetness, AD and Eric Dickerson

In sorry but Emmitt doesn't belong in there. He had a line that opened up gaping holes for him to run through. Give any of the top backs that Cowboys line and their stats are even more stacked. His best talent was durability and longevity.

To be fair to Emmitt, saying it was all his line isn't any more fair than saying Barry was some all or nothing drive killer. Neither is remotely true.

I just don't understand this thinking, Barry is not even in the same league as Walter Payton, people only remember the highlights from Barry, they don't remember the -5 yard run on 3rd and 4 that cost his team a shot at a field goal. Believe I read somewhere nobody in the history of the league has more negative yardage runs than Sanders. Not something Lions fans wanna remember obviously. Yes he made us say WOW more than any back in the history of the game but he simply is not the GOAT and IMO isn't even top 3.

You're right having Aikman and Irvin also helped him put up some huge numbers despite being only a slightly above average RB. Like RD said he was a good back but it's because of his toughness and longevity not that he was a great runner.

I still say O.J. Simpson. He was a big back that could run between the tackles but had world class sprinter speed and sweet moves like Barry Sanders. He could catch the ball out of the backfield like Marshall Faulk and pass block as well.

Thank you for not using the word slash anywhere in your post. I agree I do think the Juice could be as high as 3 or 4 on my list.

Sanders gets my vote. He played on crappy teams for the majority of his career and still would have busted the all time rushing record by a landslide if he continued to play.

Just think this is dumb fucking thread.
Watched all of the so called greats . I watched Jim Brown run over & around people who were actually trying to end his career. He withstood the test of time . Had he stayed in the game, nobody would achieve his mark.
Kudos to Payton ( I really liked Sayers better) & Smith, for surpassing Browns record. They with stood the test of time.
Loved Earl Cambell (spelling?), Bo, Dickerson, Czonca ( spelling ?) and many others.
NOBODY is in JIM BROWNS CLASS.
Fuck Hollywood , they deprived football fans of 1 of the greatest ever. O or D.
Got to admit , loved The Dirty Dozen.

If it's dumb, why did you click on it and then post?

I read it as he thinks the results are dumb, not the thread itself (even though that's what he said). Most would agree that Jim Brown is #1. I also don't think it's really even that close.
