I read it as he thinks the results are dumb, not the thread itself (even though that's what he said). Most would agree that Jim Brown is #1. I also don't think it's really even that close.

I think people think so highly of Brown and Sanders in part because they went out on top, we don't have memories of them switching teams and having those 500 yards 3 TD seasons at the end of their careers.

I actually give them a ton of respect for doing so. Just adds to their greatness.

Well Brown retired with the most career rushing yards ever and by quite a large margin. Barry retired < 1500 yards short of that, which was his yearly average. Both seemed to have some gas left in the tank but Brown also held the record for most career carries when he retired and Barry was #2 in career carries when he retired. So it's hard to argue they didn't put in their time.

I love when people say this. It obviously is that close, or not close in the opposite way bc the results show it to be that way.

It's a final.

Barry Sanders 29

Walter Payton 23

According to the Hoop, Sanders is the GOAT!

Google top 10 all-time RBs and let me know how many of those lists don't have Brown as #1. Then we'll talk about how close it is.

It is close because as you said most have Brown as #1 but Sanders or Payton are always #2 so it's kinda close no?

Brown? You mean Payton.

Brown had 12kish, Payton had 16kish and Barry retired 1500 short of that. Brown is #9 on the career yards list.

Brown had the most yards per carry, 5.2.

But really, stats aren't the end all here. Especially when all 3(Brown, Sanders, Payton) played across 3 different eras.

No I mean Brown. He retired with the most career carries and yards, both by large margins. Walter Payton was 11 years old at the time.

I just don't understand this thinking, Barry is not even in the same league as Walter Payton, people only remember the highlights from Barry, they don't remember the -5 yard run on 3rd and 4 that cost his team a shot at a field goal. Believe I read somewhere nobody in the history of the league has more negative yardage runs than Sanders. Not something Lions fans wanna remember obviously. Yes he made us say WOW more than any back in the history of the game but he simply is not the GOAT and IMO isn't even top 3.

I remember it quite clearly actually. Its too bad on those negative runs eh, he might still be waiting for a rb to catch him. He was and remains the most talented running back to ever play. Doesnt AP have a fumbling problem? There is no perfect back, but barry is definitely closest, with payton and brown 2 and 3. Theres no other RB worthy of top three consideration.

So then why did you say Barry finished < 1500 yards less than that? Considering Barry finished < 1500 yards than Payton, not Brown.

Barry had way more yards than Brown did. Brown is like #10 on the all time rushing list. Barry had like 3000 more than Brown, 1500 less than Payton.

Yes in his first 7 seasons in the league he has 31 fumbles. Oddly enough in Barry Sanders first 7 seasons in the league he had 31 fumbles. Does AD still have a fumbling problem in your opinion?

I guess I wasn't clear. I posted

"Well Brown retired with the most career rushing yards ever and by quite a large margin. Barry retired < 1500 yards short of that, which was his yearly average."

What I meant by "that", in "Barry retired < 1500 yards short of that", was the most career rushing yards, which at the time was held by Payton, not Brown's career total. Sorry for the confusion.
