There's gotta be a better number 2 than Matt Ryan.

Benny Friedman is a hall of fame QB, wore 6. Considered the first great passing QB. Played for the Giants among other teams.

So get Cutler the fuck out of there, please. That's just ignorant.

Similarly, hall of fame QB-RB Charley Trippi wore 2. He was the QB for the Cardinals when they won their last NFL title in 1947.

ON Trippi, the HOF site lists him as having worn 2, but I am seeing 62 on most of his jerseys, so I wonder if that was an error, or if he switched numbers at some point.

In any case, the point stands. That list shows hall of famers who wore 6 and 2. No need to include the likes of Cutler and Ryan on a list like this.

Never mind, Trippi did indeed wear 2 for part of his career, though I think he was the halfback, not the quarterback, on the Cardinals when they won the title. He played QB later.

#2 is worn mostly by kickers. David Akers, Steve Christie, Rob Bironas, etc. Some QBs to wear #2 are Doug Flutie, Aaron Brooks, Tim Couch. I get the push back on Cutler. I don't want him on the list either, but Ryan is more than worthy of being considered the best #2 of all-time....64.9%, 41,796 yards, 260 TD, 126 INT, MVP (2016).

Dude, like I just posted, there are actual Hall of Famers who wore those numbers. I have nothing against Matt Ryan, he is a decent player, and a Philly native, but he is not a Hall of Famer.

Some guys wore these jersey numbers for about 30 minutes and then switched or didn't have a number at all back then.

Charley Trippi is a Damn Good Dawg. Oldest living NFL HOFer, oldest living first overall NFL draft pick, and Georgia's best living legend.

So, that's Trippi pointing to Ryan and acknowledging that Ryan is the better player? Trippi is a class act and worthy of being the best #2 of all-time. Definitely in the conversation.

Not sure if this has been done since, but Trippi was the only guy in the HOF who had had 1,000 yards passing, 1,000 yards rushing and 1,000 yards receiving seasons in the NFL.
