Pujols and Manny Ramirez are the best right handed hitters of my time.

Arod and Jeter are better. Poopoo will pass Jeter in 2-3 years. Chipper is also better, but a switch hitter.

Very good Rod Carew and Harmon Killebrew

Killebrew is right there with Gwynn; Carew sits right alongside RamRam.

Odd that nobody has mentioned Joe Morgan, who is definitely top 15 all time.

Sheff/Rose/Brett/Boggs/Griffey/DiMaggio/Yount all in the 30ish range.

ARod is a superior hitter at this point and it's not even really very close. ARod will finish in the top ten of all time, or very close to it. Poo-poo has no chance to make the top 15. Put another way: ARod has already done more offensively in his career than Poo-poo ever will.

ARod .302 OBP .386 SLG .567 OPS .953
playoffs
.277 .386 .498 .884

Pujols .328 OBP .420 SLG .617 OPS 1.037

.337 .438 .620 1.058

Pujols was also the fastest to reach 300 HR. He's also won a batting title and A-Rod never has. A-Rod had 424 HR's starting from his first full season(96) through his next ten. Pujols has 445. How is it not even close?

oWAR, brother. Climb up outta the stone age. ARod at 107.1, Poopoo at 77.5. It'd take a very good seven years from Poo to catch ARod if he retired tomorrow.

I would assume so, since A-Rod has been playing 7 years longer.

@ tzill: Hornsby and Speaker, sure. Never saw them play (obviously...never saw Ruth either) so they didn't cometo mind but I'm sure the stats bear it out.

And I have to agree Henderson >> Ichiro

OK...

But you already said that taking a walk was important. Isn't a single BETTER than a walk?

I would argue that Suzuki has had a more-impressive career than Rose, so let's stick with him. Sure, he has NO SLG, but his OBP and BA has been frigg'n epic.

We are really arguing over 5.9 vs a half dozen, here, granted, but there isnt anything else to talk about :)

Rickey's OBP way more epic than Ichiro. And more power, better baserunner, etc. Ichiro really doesn't belong here, unless you are talking pure hit makers. Not power, not WAR, not even OBP, just who has a high batting average...well then sure Gwynn, Boggs, Ichiro, Carew, etc top of list.

Morgan probably the best hitter ever for his position, but we were talking pantheon of bats. I doubt he struck fear in any pitchers the way these other guys do.

I need to add Stan Musial to my 2nd tier and Mike Schmidt to my third.

Morgan to my third tier also.

The problem with WAR tzill is it's cumulative. Rewards longevity, which is fine, but then you can't include a Sandy Koufax on a list of all time great pitchers.

For example, Koufax has exactly the same career WAR as Gene Tenace, and is just a hair ahead of the immortal pitcher Stan Coveleski. So there's that.

I can't believe no one mentioned Don " Donnie Baseball" Mattingly. I'm not a Yankees fan, but if I was starting an All-Time Team, he would be my first pick. I remember watching him give pitchers absolute hell and foul off 12 - 15pitches like it was nothing before they would give up and throw the pitch he wanted to drive. There haven't been many like him since.

We really need sarcasm tags.

I almost took you seriously.

?

You seriously don't think Mattingly deserves to be mentioned here? He was a gamer. Period. Pitchers did not look forward to his at bat.

Maaaaaaybe....but you were picking him first on your all time team? So I guess I can have Babe Ruth, and calsnow can have Willie Mays?

Are you in a fantasy league? Open for any new owners?
