Thing with Buddy Rich is, he was a complete arrogant asshole and everyone who knew him hated him. Yet as much as they despised him personally, they still couldn't stop raving about his drum skills.

IMO he was the Michael Jordan of drummers. As in that, he was the greatest, he knew he was the greatest, every other drummer knew he was the greatest, but he still felt the necessity to constantly remind everyone, both verbally as well as prove it every time he performed.
Buddy Rich was a heroin addict.

Where is Keith Moon? He is head and shoulders above everyone on that list.

Tito Puente or GTFO.

Yeah, I know, you said "Drummer," which is completely different from "Percussionist."

But if it's a list of "drummers," you have to have Moon. That 19-year-old who replaced him didn't exactly blow Moon's doors off; he played three numbers, was passable on two of them, and horrible on one of them.

If we were talking best percussionist, nobody that anybody has mentioned and nobody on the list would even make the top 50, including Puente.

If we're gonna veer off into Percussion land...I've got a whole cast of characters I could include.
But that's probably better served in anther, separate thread.

btw: I'm a percussionist for 20 + yrs...but I don't play traps.

Peart may be getting old, but he can still rock.

Although his facial expression in this is less "I'm rocking this fucking place" and more "I have mild indigestion" :pound:

I absolutely agree Oaknightshockey1. He was flat-out awesome during the ClockWork Angels tour. Hours of awesome heavy rock from a little ole band from Canada.

Damn...I can't believe I forgot to list Elvin Jones, Jim Keltner, Levon Helm & John Densmore...

:L

He is a fav of mine, more so for his voice than his drumming...but hell, THE BAND was a goodie no doubt.
