yeah, this is a genre specific question.

Buddy Rich is a safe bet no matter what, though.

Almost every single drummer I've ever known says Rich was the man. Everyone else falls in line behind him.

The poll must have just gotten added.

I like the list, though I'd put Beauford on there before several of them.

Yeah, he's extraordinary.

First thing I ever heard him play was Birldland. That was a big gateway into jazz for me, actually.

A bit biased (huge Vandals fan), but I'll go with Freese.

As far as best I've ever seen live... it's a toss up between Neil Peart and Mick Fleetwood.

What?
No Ringo???

Thought I once read that Neil Peart is like one of only three people to actually have a PHD in percussion instruments or some shit like that.

This ^

I voted "other" because I always put Buddy Rich #1.

Regardless, you can't even have this debate without including a few old school jazz drummers. Guys like Gene Krupa and Max Roach.

The old guys learned to do more with less - they used every part of the drumset: the rim, the shell, the cymbal stands, everything - as well as played an incredibly skilled, progressive and artistic genre of music.

A favorite of mine as a young child was Sandy Nelson.
