I wasn't making the point that Deion was capable of getting Barry down one-on-one, and Rod wasn't. That was just a little side point because I enjoyed being able to razz my brother a bit about his favorite player.
Deion is the best corner I've seen. Tackling is important but he wasn't so horrible at it, that it detracts that much from him overall. He was more unwilling than he was incapable. He still made tackles when he had to.
What's the difference whether he was unwilling or unable ? They were still tackles not made. I didn't see anywhere near all the games Deion nor Woodson (my pick) played. As I recall, Deion's tackling technique amounted to throwing himself on the ground in front of the ball carrier and hoping the guy tripped over him. He could also hop on a guy and pull him down when they did catch one against him. He was the best cover corner I've ever seen, though. I'll grant him that. I guess it depends on how much you value being a complete player. It would be interesting to see what the coaches and players who were their peers think about it.
