I wasn't making the point that Deion was capable of getting Barry down one-on-one, and Rod wasn't. That was just a little side point because I enjoyed being able to razz my brother a bit about his favorite player.

Deion is the best corner I've seen. Tackling is important but he wasn't so horrible at it, that it detracts that much from him overall. He was more unwilling than he was incapable. He still made tackles when he had to.

What's the difference whether he was unwilling or unable ? They were still tackles not made. I didn't see anywhere near all the games Deion nor Woodson (my pick) played. As I recall, Deion's tackling technique amounted to throwing himself on the ground in front of the ball carrier and hoping the guy tripped over him. He could also hop on a guy and pull him down when they did catch one against him. He was the best cover corner I've ever seen, though. I'll grant him that. I guess it depends on how much you value being a complete player. It would be interesting to see what the coaches and players who were their peers think about it.

Gotta go with Prime Time. Charles Woodson should be on this list though.

Apologies, only HoFer's made the list.

Yes, I know...he'll make it but still. It keeps people from throwing out the flavor of the day like Talibue or Revis, etc.

I guess it's a matter of whether his weakness at tackling was so significant, that his cover skills cannot overcome that weakness. I feel his cover skills more than made up for any weakness he had in tackling.

It is as usual a matter of opinion, one at least slightly effected by bias.

I went Green he was absolutely sick probably one of the fastest corners ever. I also like Sanders but a lot of his fame came from returns and I'm basing this strictly on corner play.

I think it's limited to retired players.

My guess is that people simply realize that Charles Woodson doesn't belong in the discussion. He was great, but the only current player who belongs in the discussion is Champ Bailey.

Again, only men that are in the HoF are in the discussion.

It's probably been touched on before (I didn't read through all the responses), but Deion Sanders was absolutely the best cover corner to ever play the game. Not to mention everything else he could do (KR, PR, WR)... well... except make a tackle. I swear, I can remember times where the guy seemed to even avoid ball carriers, or funnel them to another defender to make the hit. Lol.

I want to say Rod Woodson is the best all around CB ever. But, even Deion's inability (or refusal, maybe?) to make a tackle was well overshadowed by his talents, as far as I'm concerned. I mean... how often do you really need to tackle your man if your man never gets the ball? The guy was an absolute game changer.

To me, Woodson and Sanders are 1a and 1b. But... I suppose if you put a gun to my head, I'd go with Primetime.

There were much better run-support CBs and tacklers, but Neon Deion was so much better in coverage that he's the easy choice here. Flashy, douche, self-congratulatory....and fucking good. Never mind that he's one of the better punt returners in history too.

A cornerback who can't tackle is not the best all around corner

Deion is the best. Hands down.

The poll says so.
