Steelers will likely transition tag him although I don't know why you'd bother . You've already got a guy just as good who's younger and cheaper . I suppose if you're a spiteful team and his offer isn't craxy high you could just match it and sit his ass on the bench all year as an insurance policy but that seems unlikely

Three options were listed in the article.

Most likely, to me, was the transition tag option.
The transition tag allows them to match any offer he gets, if they decline,he signs elsewhere, and the Steelers get nothing..seems like a lose-lose for a player they don't need. Let him walk and get the compensatory pick

Would there be a comp pick?

His salary is Zero this year.

Comp picks are even more confusing than this Bell situation. Or when MSU made him an honorary captain while he was on a drug suspension.

it's as confusing as Japanese arithmetic..but it seems he's burned all the bridges with his teammates, the front office and the fans...so let the fucker walk and be done with him ( I would be lying if I didn't say I secretly hope the Steelers fuck with him and make his life as miserable as possible by tagging him and pissing in his cornflakes at every turn... but I doubt they will..)

Could just be conjecture although it kind of makes sense. I mean if you're not going to report why leave Miami and come back to PA?

We'll see what contract he gets in free agency. If he gets the contract he is seeking then it will be hard to call him a dumbass
Yup, losing $14.5M is brilliant......

Yeah why would he play for 5 million when he wouldn't play for 14? Lol

cause he is getting nothing now. If his best bid is $5 million, why wouldn't he take it?

Losing 14 mil puts a ton of decisions in check.

Part of it, I bet, is ego -- he thought he might be riding the pine.

I know if I was the coach, he'd be dressed to play and sitting on the bench.

thats what we offered him, he wanted 17million

Over how many years? I’m assuming 17 is an average, because he obviously would have lost most of that by not playing this year.

I mean, 4 years at 68 million versus 4 years at 60. Arguing over 8 million. Not playing this year cost 15. (Not talking about franchise 14.)

3 years at 51 M versus 3 years at 45 million. Arguing over 6 million. Lost 15 this year by not playing.

2 years at 34 million versus 2 years at 30. Arguing over 4 million. Lost 15 by not playing.

1 year at 17 versus franchised at 14 or deal at 15. Arguing over 2 million. Lost 14-15 million.

5 years at 85 million versus 5 at 75. 10 million difference. Subtract 15 by not signing.

Obviously, those amounts are only illustrative. The argument would be over guaranteed amounts, not total. Signing a three year deal in 2019 instead of 2018 extends his signed years in a timeline of his life, subtract 14 million and wear/tear.

i

it did, but this is more recent like this past week..........and everyone said " no hes coming"

Yep...I thought he was coming in by the deadline...why else go back to PIT? Ran out of clothes?

In the end, it will be great for the team this season if he indeed does not report. But, as Steeler fans we'll continue to hear about Bell and this stupid contract for months to come.

Yeah why would he play for 5 million when he wouldn't play for 14? Lol

It must be because of the “loophole“ of the CBA or something. The argument had always been he had to report so he could have that year of use or whatever. That way he would be a free agent next year or earn the higher pay of another tag. But now it seems that he may have that accrual anyway and so 5 million would not be worth as much. He doesn’t want to lose more face by showing up.

Besides I feel if he showed up, and did well, and had to say all the PC things about Pittsburgh, he would be like Britney Spears on “oops, I did it again” and the Steelers with franchise him again. Just kidding, the amount is too much.
