This dude was skilled enough to be considered a 2nd to 3rd round pick. But he was stupid enough to fail a drug test at the combine and ended up not being drafted. Anyone that saw him play linebacker at Florida State knows he is a borderline 1st round talent. Bears stole this one.

Could be. Then again, your second sentence suggests he might be somewhat less than a lock.

Same could be said with a lot of teams from this group of UDFA's... This was one of the deepest drafts in a very long time.

By signing him after the draft , there is no risk. Only potential that he turns into a starter. The talent is there, he just has to get his life together.

I'm guessing there is more to it than just smoking weed with him before the combine. Usually something like that only drops a player 2 rounds at most. To see him drop as far as he did there had to be more to the picture. Same with Antonio Richardson as he was expected to go 2nd round yet nobody drafted him. There has to be more to the story that we don't know that caused teams to take these guys off their draft boards.

Decent talent no doubt, but you don't go from 2nd or 3rd round to UDFA b/c of a failed drug test...Secondly, what makes you think he's done being stupid? Adams (PIT OT) had the same issue, except he dropped to the 2nd rd...so far on the straight and narrow.

Hopefully it works out for the kid.

I live by Tallahassee; trust me, this guy is a fucking beast. Everyone was shocked when he did not get drafted, but no surprises he failed the drug test. If he can somehow get off the pipe, the guy could end up being an all-pro.

...and yes, that is the only reason he wasn't drafted. He loves the sticky icky too much.

My guess then is he failed a few times at Florida state when taking drug tests and the coaches then warned teams that this is more of an issue for this kid than any team would want. Teams can understand getting caught once but going beyond that of repeated issues with it makes him undraftable

Roberson and Purifoy both should have been drafted but they will likely challenge for playing time early.

There you go, something along those lines happened...as I said earlier...you don't drop THAT much because of a failed drug test at the combine.

Noone was going to draft Purify with all his off the field issues. He at one time was considered a 1st round pick.
