don't think of Colby as anything but a #5 or below but what i was responding to was his comment about keeping Colby and signing another bottom feeder.

right now we have Yu and Derek as the top of our pitching staff, nothing in between and if you do what he suggested you would have Colby & 3 or 4 others fighting to be our #5

I would not sign guys to be our #3 and #4 to long term contracts with the pitching we have on the way.

What do you mean? Finding a good 3-4? Maybe. We need to take a serious run at shields IMO.

I am just saying as a fan I don't have any hope that we will land one of those type pitchers. I do think JD will try, but I don't hold out any hope. Based on what JD has said in the past though I think he realizes the chances are very slim.

actually listening to him this season, i got the impression that he admitted that he didn't try hard enough and that he plans on doing a better job this off-season of going after players. i have hope if you don't then move on to another team

HA! They actually played the game - a 3 hr 40 min rain delay. Game did not start until almost 11pm, then it went 11 innings - ended at 2:30 am EDT!!! Nats won 4-1 ...Braves are fading...

And not a tough division this year. Shame but a lot of injuries themselves. Especially in pitching.

If we're trying to compete next year Colby can not be our #3.

I wouldn't sign bottom feeders. I would bring back Colby and let our young guys pitch as that will help us more in the long run than signing bottom feeders. You are not going to get a top flight pitcher to sign here though. Lots of folks want Shields and I agree he would be great to have, but unless JD decides to break the budget Shields will not come here.

This team finds itself in a predicament regarding pitching next year and that is going to be the case no matter how much hope we have as fans. Realizing that predicament doesn't mean someone needs to move on to another team either.

The idea that someone who isn't blind to our pitching predicament of not being able to get top flight pitchers to sign here should quit being a fan of this team is silly.
