He should have gone in with Alan Trammell ... How did he get only 2.9% of the vote?

I'm not saying I agree obviously

Maybe because he had good not great power. Relatively struggled against lefties

That's a good observation about him struggling against lefties but I can't imagine most of the guys not voting for him the first time around even noticed that. The more I look at it, how is Bill Mazeroski in the hall of fame and not this guy?

Curtis Granderson is another former Tiger I have more in depth memories on than Lou...and he's painfully bad against lefties and he has about the same OPS against lefties as Lou.

Granted he benefitted some from Yankee stadium for a few years

I hate when people compare players who are in and not in(yet)…

just because one is in does not mean the other SHOULD be in... does 2 wrongs equal a right??

and generally players of different eras get compared differently...

but your example of Bill Mazeroski is a bad one because he got inducted by the veterans committee...

yeah, that's fair. I definitely agree you have to consider the era they played in. Forget about the Maz comparison. I still think Whitaker is a hall of famer.

he is definitely on the fence...

but he is not the type of player to cry about not making it(not saying you are crying)... neither is trammel...

nah... neither of those reasons are why... Most lefty's struggled against lefties...

the reason he is not in(YET) is because he did not have any stand out seasons, and didn't play long enough to reach any milestones...

He never had a season of 500+ PA and over a .400 OBP, only had 100+ runs twice, only one season with a BA over .300...

his stats look better on whole than it does season by season...

Well my first kneejerk reaction with these guys is to look at career WAR, a test which he easily passes. Also, if your name is Lou, you had to at one time or another been called "Sweet Lou" to be considered famous enough to get into the hall. He also passes this test.

He also never stood for the National Anthem. Not once.

If Trout just stopped because he did not feel like playing, he does not get in. If it is something out of his control that ended his time I think he for sure gets the Joss treatment.

would never happen... even in hypothetical... even if he broke his leg and could never play again... all he needs is ONE at bat... they would probably let him wheel chair it up to the plate!!!
