Sure verlander has been better than Kershaw in the postseason. Not a difficult task.

But let’s not pretend verlander has good postseason numbers. He is not a good postseason pitcher. He is just better than Kershaw.

I don’t give him a boost for mediocrity.
He's not been good in the World Series, but he has indeed been good in the postseason.

They're not tied in the regular season however...Mauer's reg season body of work is better than Posey's.
That's nice. Posey's getting in though. Mauer maybe too.

Posey has some of that Jeter factor, where the writers like him more than his stats. It's an extra something like leadership, 'face of baseball' stuff

Mauer's not getting in. His time at 1st base is enough of a detriment on his career to keep him out, where he was a significantly below average offensive 1st baseman.

That's a good point. I was just noting to the other guy that Posey is getting in, even if Mauer has better overall regular season numbers. And yes partly because Mauer had a lot more ABs at 1st. Although, Posey plays there some and will do so more as he ages.

His career ain't over, not that he's much of a hitter anymore. He'll get in

But Piazza is the best offensive catcher ever isn't he?

Jeter however had the stats, so whether the writers liked him or not, it's not a question.

I wouldn't bet on Posey getting to 1000 runs, 1000 RBI, 2000 hits, 50 WAR, 175 HR, and his rate stats could take a major hit if he continues to decline. Both his HOF standards and HOF monitor per BR are well below HOF caliber/average at this point, and both take position into account and HOF standards takes playoffs into the account.

He might very well get in, but I don't think it's a slam dunk like you think it is.

If he doesn't finish his career strong, he could always kamikaze attack the Gulf of Mexico to ensure first ballot status.

Worked for Roy Halladay.

You just want your shot at Kate

50 WAR for catchers might as well be 70 elsewhere imo. I think WAR severely underrates catchers.

Lou Whitaker 75.1
Derek Jeter 72.4
Alan Trammell 70.7
Barry Larkin 70.4
Ryne Sandberg 68.0
Ernie Banks 67.5
Craig Biggo 65.5
Jackie Robinson 61.4 (Only 10 seasons)

Which one of these players received 2.9% of the vote in his 1st year of eligibility?

Will Derek Jeter get 90%+ of the vote his first year?

I don’t think anyone is saying Whitaker wasn’t worthy.

I didn’t realize he was that good until late in his candidacy, but yes he was.
