Turn the 1996 WS off after game 2......:suds:

Who dwells on things that happened to their sports teams when they were 5.

Brooks Conrad and Sam Holbrook are far more likely to trigger me(not likely though, after so many gut punches as a sports fan, you get numb to it after a while. Those two things, 2011, Prayer at Jordan Hare, Dobbnail Boot, 2nd and 26, 28-3. I can handle sports gut checks better than most).

I'd also vote for Greinke, Sabathia, Scherzer and Cano. Posey's borderline. One of the greatest hitting catchers ever, but under 1000 games at C right now and his bat is declining. I'd probably vote for him anyway given his peak.

I’m definitely not a Molina fan but I am surprised I’m the first one to vote for him. His defense and longevity alone get him in. His offense is adequate enough for a 15 year catcher that I bet he’s a first ballot guy. Taking away his first season and this current unfinished season, he’s averaged 130 games every year.

I’m not as fluent in WAR and deep analytics as some of you though.

he had some really good offensive years, but his numbers overall are still kinda average for a catcher (especially compared to HOFers) and he's had some pretty lousy offensive years even by catcher standards. he was also very slow and hit into a lot of double plays. I don't think it would be a travesty if he got in (unlike, say, Jack Morris), but he juuuuuust falls short for me.

is he better than Morris?? sure his overall stats are better... But Bummy doesn't have the longevity of Morris... Also, Morris did better in the CY voting than Bummy…

and Morris had 2 seasons of 20+ wins, compared to bummy's 0... I would easily say Morris had the better CY resume than Bummy…

All bummy had was one month...

and Morris had some pretty good post season numbers too...

Much of that extra longevity however were below average years.

And one of Morris' 20-win seasons was in a year where his ERA was worse than the league average.

don't be surprised you are the only one voted for him in this poll... he should not be selected in this poll as there are better HOF options...

of the 12 players in the poll, i can easily see 10 making it... 7 of them are already SUPPOSED to make it...

It was actually harder than I expected to only choose 5. My fifth slot was a debate between Kershaw and Scherzer. I think they both deserve it, but if it comes down to just one or the other than it's a tough debate.

How the fuck was Kershaw up for debate??

Miggy
Pujols
Trout
Kershaw

Are the easy 4 answers.

I leaned Scherzer over the other pitchers for 5th spot. All will end up in

Since these guys are all active I'm assuming we're going with the hypothetical "if he was in a plane crash" scenario. I believe at this point, if the unthinkable happened they would waive the 10 year rule and let Trout in. With regards to Bumgarner, his postseason heroics are the kind of thing that will put him in the San Francisco Giants Hall of Fame or Wall of fame or whatever they have, but the rest of his resume isn't enough to get him in the hall of fame yet.

I still have a program from the 1957 World Series which the Milwaukee Braves won. Neat thing---it was autographed by the umpires. My uncle went to one of the games and gave it to me. I was 5, turned 6 after the Series was over.

Morris is a border line HOF ... Lou Whitaker is a easy Hall of Famer, he should have been voted in, in his 2nd year of eligibility at the same time with Alan Trammell. 19 years together at the Keystone!!

Whitaker had a HOF caliber career, but Morris certainly isn't borderline imo.. he's on the level of a guy like David Wells, who no one considers borderline.

Morris is in because he had the most wins of any pitcher in the 1980s. But I agree with you.

Which I don't think is a testament to his 'greatness,' but rather that many of the better pitchers during the '80s didn't play the full decade (ie., Clemens, Gooden, Hershiser, Saberhagen).

Keep trolling, fake Texan...

He had a good chance until injuries derailed his career IMO. He was at 33.1 WAR through his first six seasons. He's only had two seasons above 2 WAR since 2012 (the last being 2016) and he's had a wRC+ below 115 three years in a row. Not very good, especially not for a guy that's never been known for his defense.

Giants need to retire Brooks Conrad's number
