How I met Your Mother did well at times it jumped around too much imo. The finale was a little odd... especially the very end

The last season was certainly not the best season, but it wasn't horrible. The final episode was utter garbage, though. They take 8 years to slow burn a story, then put everything in a hat and shuffle it all up in the last hour? UGH!!

I also wasn't a fan of Mom. She was a dull character. I liked the slightly chubby gf he had a few seasons earlier (totally forget her name). I have read that she was initially supposed to be Mom, but the show just lasted too long to make that story viable.

Yes, it was the weakest. Just not the dumpster fire that it is credited as, IMHO....

And certainly not as bad as the finale itself.

But yeah, anti-climactic reveal. The only reason I questioned whether it was him or not the second he was introduced was because I thought it would be too obvious.

I don't think he was surprised. I think was afraid, because he hates being Alchemy. There is probably a level of possession or split-personality involved (similar to katlyn).
