Mayhew: Can't afford all 3. Let's let Suh walk and build around Stafford and Johnson.

Caldwell: Great idea. You do that while the coaching staff and I build an offense around the running game.
Millen: if only I had a couple more decades...

What if...just what if this year he has say....80+ catches...1000 + yards and say...8-10 TD's?

I will say the same thing I've said from the get go and after seeing Golden Tate play for a year -- it only emphasized my point from before.

There are only so many balls to go around. On a team with not one, but two WR's who were selected to the pro bowl and in an offense where they love dumping passes off to the RB's -- Ebron will not sniff those type of numbers.

The TD total is possible, but not if the Lions use Fauria as their red zone target. This isn't the same Lions team from a couple years ago, where we are winging it 700 times a season.

Could Ebron put up those type of numbers in another offense, where he'd be featured much more? Who knows? Personally -- He didn't look like that type of player last year, but TE is a tough position. I still didn't see him getting separation in his routes, which is why I'm guessing his offseason plan consisted of working on his route running in North Carolina.

It'd be tremendous if he could be another weapon for the offense. Won't change my opinion on the pick though, but that is what it is.

I'm a Lions fan. I'd be ecstatic. I'll never hope for any Lion to fail. My view of the pick really couldn't change because of his position. I don't like a TE(with my view of team needs and then current roster) with #10. He didn't have great speed or great hands. At least if he had I could have entertained the idea.

Sounds like LP and myself have much of the save view points regarding the use of the #10 pick.

you two aren't alone in your views. you can add me into that equation.... just sayin'. Donald is who I finally wanted last year. Having him would have lessened the need to go after Ngata, somewhat, IMO. The again maybe Mayhew would have still traded for Ngata. At least Donald would have been on the comparative cheap and for another 3 years on the current roster. oh well, that was then.

and I sure as hell didn't think after signing Pettipoops plus already having Fauria was there a need for another shiny new offensive toy while 3 DT's were on their last year of contract

I was certainly stunned by the pick. I thought for sure it would be Donald or Martin...

Every thread turns into a Ebron bashing. That sure does suck.

But here's the truth: Even if the Lions took Donald, the discussion would've been about how the Lions didnt take OBJ an that the team doesn't have enough weapons outside of Tate and CJ. Suh still walks so the complaining would've never ends with that either. Its the very same outcome except with different players inserted to complain about.

People would say, "We have Donald but he's not Suh. Mayhew shouldve paid him 200 million bucks. OBJ would've help our lame offense." Etc....etc.....etc......etc....etc

okay, well, I wasn't trying to bash Ebron but how do you call drafting Donald hind sight when a few in here, not smitty of course, saw the potential he had and also thought of the future of not retaining all three DT's who are no longer on the roster.

I seriously didn't mind, n don't mind the Ebron pick. I don't even mind reading you haters continuing to bitch about it. I do mind Suh being a Dolphin though. So I'll bitch aboot it for, oh, 5,6 maybe 7 or 8 more years.

Atleast we didn't trade up for a third wide receiver. Cuz I was skurd of that like meeting Frankenstein and Todd Gurley with a Lions hat on in a dark alley on Draft Day.

No one would be bitching about the Lions not drafting OBJ. Detroit already has Tate and Calvin. I wouldn't want the Lions to draft OBJ, even after seeing him play his rookie year. He is a tremendous talent, but I'd take Aaron Donald or Zach Martin in a heartbeat over him, as they fill needs on the team, as well as being a tremendous talent.

What I don't think you understand is -- It is nothing personal against Ebron. I think he could be a solid player in another system. The people who were dead set against the pick, myself being the most vocal, would not be happy for any TE drafted in the top 10. IMO -- unless you are an absolute freak of nature who is a giant like Graham or you are one of the best blocking TE's to go along with one of the best route runners and the best hands like Gronkowski -- You shouldn't spend a pick so valuable on the position.

Nothing about Ebron is extraordinary. Nothing jumps off the sheet and says -- WOW. He can run, doesn't have elite speed. He can make a great catch every so often, but struggles with drops. He isn't big for the position (6'4"). He isn't going to out jump many guys (32" vert) His best asset is his confidence, but if he has another year like 2014 -- I'm not sure how long that is going to last.

I truly, truly hope that we see a turnaround from Ebron, as I want the Lions to be successful. I still stand by my comments that the pick made absolutely no sense to me.

St Louis was so confident in Donald's abilities they brought in Fairley to motivate him.

Who the hell needs 3 1st round DTs on a roster? Fer real? Pay one an assload I say. But save yer damn picks. It's just better buisness.
