About a year ago the wife and I were looking into a new ride and needed something with space. But she soon landed a better job with a lot more cash that was 50 miles away so we decided to get her a Civic for MPG and reliability. Well we are again approaching that new code mode and I have always been a fan of wagon's which offer a decent ride and some cargo space. The only wagon I found appealing was the V90 but I really do not want to pay that cost at this time. While in Daytona a few weeks back a Honda Odyssey Elite pulled out in front of us and she fell in love. I thought to myself man a Mini Van really, what about guy code? Well, at 57 and no longer chasing tail guy code gets replaced with common sense and practicality. The Odyssey offers more cargo space than most full size SUVs, get's better gas mileage, comes well equipped, and they look pretty nice. We talked about this because we are both so sick and tired of all the SUVs on the road. Anyone else feel this way? Anyone own a newer Odyssey?

Meh, I do like the Odysseys, but have not problem with SUVs. We get a bit of snow here, and go up to the mountains where they gets tens of feet a year of snow. We stick with SUVs, and I have a truck.

Yeah I get that, if I still live in New Hampshire I would likely get the Subaru Ascent. But I live in Florida now, close to retirement and the wife and I want something to travel the US in. We saw a lot of Europe while we served and want to a lot of the US when we retire. First trip Glacier National Park MT

I would look at the Toyota Sienna. I've owned both and though they both have minuses, I would go Toyota. The big difference years ago is vehicle maintenance Toyota easier on pocket book than Honda in regards to recommended maintenance. I only have that done because it is the wife's vehicle.

I am not sure I agree with you Maint theory I currently own a Toyota and a Honda and have owned both in the past and never found one more than the other to repair. IMO the Sienna is just to bland looking the new Sienna 21 looks nice but only comes as a Hybrid and I am not sold on Hybrid yet and I know those are very costly to repair

1/4 mile low 12's at 113
Has launch control.

That's cool if that is your kind of stuff, not a speed guy or a sporty ride guy I prefer more comfort when I can afford it. I like the Audi A6 wagon but will damn sure have to buy pre owned.

Wasn't this a plot point in the movie "Get Shorty"? Travolta convinces some hardcore criminals that an Oldsmobile Silhouette is the 'Cadillac of Minivans' and superior to cars and SUVs.

It has all kinds of ride settings, comfort is quite spongy.

Try and find an A6 wagon. Or one of these.

I literally tripped over this. Very rare and no way I could pass it up.

I am very much a go fast kind of guy, but not a drag racer. But it's nice to know you can when you want to.....

Having had an S55 AMG and still having my Audi S4, pedestrian cars do not fit my bill. Like SUVs and trucks don't.

Wasn't it Danny Devito who JT got to drive the Silhouette?

I have access to the A6 Wagon but I cant find one pre owned which better suits my budget. I had never saw the Mercedes until you posted it. BUt I am not what people call a car guy. I am a guy that like quality for a reasonable price.

I could have purchased slightly newer used Benz wagons that were down the pole in ranking.

With this car I have uber quality at a reasonable price.

64K Km, 2012. Well over $120K new, got it for $40K. Worth every penny, even have a 4 year 80K KM warranty for an extra $3500.

I admit, I have the car disease.

Yeah may have the disease but when you know a good deal from the jump that helps. I have to research that, if I think it's a good deal I have to research before I commit. But i am never in a hurry to buy so it's not a real issue for me. If you walk up and no it's a good deal makes it a lot easier.

There is NO WAY I will ever own a mini van.
Of any make or model.
Give me a muscle car, an SUV (with muscle) or a truck.
Preferably a combination of the three.
Right now we have A Jeep Grand Cherokee the my wife drives mostly, an SHO Taurus that I drive mostly and a Ford Explorer that my son drives mostly.
When he goes to college next year I will pick up an old truck for work duties and maybe keep the SHO or trade it for a Mustang convertible.
I like the new Explorer ST also, so maybe the Jeep goes too.

But a minivan?

Oh, hell no.

Well as I said they are not for all but for me yeah I'll drive one. More space than an SUV, better ride than an SUV in most cases, better gas mileage, and as I said SUVs just lack any originality. But this is me, at this time my need is for a vehicle that is practical for us. I don't think this is to bad. The wife likes it, we travel or did prior to global meltdown. I can take to the nursery to get our flowers and plants, I can take to Lowe's and carry 4x8 sheets of plywood in it. It's super practical for us and our long distance trips. In a few years the plan is to get the Audi A5 Cabriolet for our local trips.

The 3 of us took an aimless Saturday cruise down island. Looked at a couple of houses and then went for lunch at one of the golf courses.

So nice to pull out and simply zoom by those being passed effortlessly. Being an E class, it's not quite as roomy as our S55 was in the back but it's more than adequate. And I never sit there anyway..

Kind of cool to see folks going "what the fuck was that?" that just blew by.....
